    Hey Brandon,

    >That's funny. I have a video of the Pittsburgh show (10/29/94) and they =

    >did not play IF.

Holy Shit!!! I damn near shit myself when i read this...i'm from =
Pittsburgh and had the misfortune of being in the frozen tundra of Erie =
PA for this show, but i've been looking for a dub, a boot, or even =
someone who was there to mind meld with. But now there's a VIDEO!!!!

Dude, you gotta tell me you can get me a copy!!!! Please let me know =
    ASAP!!

    Oh, and Brian said:
    >DT bootlegs, and I haven't heard many shows where James can -really-hit =
    >those
    >notes the way he does on the album. That's all IMHO. Flame away!!!!

That's 'cause no one's there on stage to grab and crush his nuts...at =

(First of all, Sue (and Rick) I hope you pull though the
    next few months minimally Scarred)

Okay, I can honestly say that Fates Warning is the best band, by far,
that has ever been recommended to me by the 'jam. Adam was right on
in his comments, no one sounds like Fates. The genius use of dual-lead
guitars puts Queensryche to shame. The first album I picked up was
Perfect Symmetry, and I loved it from the opening notes 'till the
end. Months later, Inside Out was released and I loved that, too,
(I picked up No Exit at the same time) then I found Parallels in
a used bin, then... (well, I confess that I don't have the first
    two albums, so sue me).

    >>Fuck Dream Theater on Conan O'Brian.
    >
    ><grunt>

    Souldn't that be: <grunt> <grunt> <grunt> <grunt> <GRUNT!> (that
was for James... I don't know, all the girls think he's the finest)

Speaking of James, if people are turned off by the voice, then screw
'em! Separates the wheat from the chaff. And... what really pisses me
off is when people say "that sounds like an '80s spandex/hair band".
I daresay that most of these people aren't old enough to remember
the '80s other than that's when they were in primary school/junior
high. Hey, I never slag on the '70s music like they cap on the '80s.
Next time someone says that, challenge them to be *specific*. I love
James' voice, DT wouldn't be DT without him (you know what I mean).

Having said that, I think that the vocalist for Superior, though of
a tamer range, is *awesome*. I love that guy. *smack*

Speaking of Superior, it's a good thing TFE came out today--- my
_Behind_ disc is almost worn out. Cairo (haven't heard) and Fates
detractors notwithstanding, I think 99.44% of 'jammers would love
this disc. I bought it without hearing it. Of course, I've bought
everything recommended here without hearing it (the exception,
Mastermind II- found in a used bin, so I got to listen to it- liked
it, bought it) and I've liked *everything* except for Magellan
(who still aren't *bad*, I don't like Yes as much as I did in the
past, so maybye this explains it). You guys and gals are the
    greatest *sniff*.

Speaking of other bands, I picked up Leviathan (DSB), TFE,
Venus Isle, and Deus Ex Machina. Wtf? It's all in Italian! What
the hell is up with that? If it were en Espanol, at least I could
stumble through it. Italian 'jammers, anything interesting on
there, or is it just the usual? So, I listened to about 2 mins. of
the first song, nothing caught my ear right away, but it sounded
okay. Sounds like I'll like it. So, being the RushFan (tm) that
I am, I popped TFE into the player. Hmm. Listened to all of Limbo
and about 1 or 2 mins. of each of the other songs (it was only
about a 15 min. drive from there to work). Well, I wasn't too
impressed. Of course, I was instantly impressed with RtB and CP
when I first heard them and now I never listen to them anymore,
so take that for what it is. Sonically, it did sound like what
I've always wanted HYF to sound. So I put in Leviathan. I like it!
Cool stuff. Metal-heads will like this.

Well, I'll give more comprehensive review when I've had a few weeks
for the above to settle in my brain.

Hey, I know this is a long post, but at least I didn't pull a
Brian and split it up into 7 or eight short ones :^)>

I have a Van Halen video that contains a ton of live interviews with
Eddie and Alex, and in the video Eddie says that David Lee QUIT VH. Eddie
said that they paniced at first because quote: "I thought, what the hell
    do we do now?!".

have the cash to cover a blank VHS tape, the taping time, and shipping,

I would say that the chances of Gary joinging are better than 50%. He spent
a couple weeks in L.A. with Ed and the boys and also made it clear that he
is available whenever they wanted him. He has NO problem waiting till after
any possible tour with Roth. Even though I'd hate to see Extreme split, this
would be a great gig for Gary. Extreme gets ZERO support from it's labe, and
Nuno seems more interested in being a solo artist. Also, he's willing to
doth BOTH eras of VH, which is something DLR is incapable vocally of doing
and Sammy wasn't willing to do because of jealousy.

all the tapes I got from him so I don't know if IF is on there. When I find
out if I have it on anything I will post it and make the show available to

The Pittsburgh 10/29/94 DOES NOT have Innocence Faded on it, just to concurr
what Taco Belhai and others have said.

    Buster,

The below post was written by me, not DreamNDay. David Lee Roth left Van
Halen in 1985 to persue a solo career in Music and Film. He came back to do
two songs for the upcoming Greatest Hits disc due Oct. 22. After the VH
appearance on the MTV VMA Eddie was so mad at Dave for his behavior that he
fired David Lee Roth from the band.

    Mateo, CA ; Phone # is (415) 571-0440 11-7 pacific (2-10eastern). He
specializes in mail order and would be happy to mail copies out. I haven't
been at work for a while so I don't know how many he has, so it's best to

Sorry 'bout that. Wrong key. :)

Folks, unless you're a #ytsejam regular, you probably haven't heard from
me for a long time. I've purposely put off posting on the JAM to cut
down on lots of small messages, so I'm going to sum things up in ONE big
    post.

And no, this isn't going to be nearly as long as Mike Bahr's post, so
    don't worry. :)

RE: Mike Bahr: Dude, you are like the master of words. I totally
identified with your 3-part posts about the JAM and life in general.
Thanks for being bold enough to share that with us.

RE: "Test For Echo": I expect to get the new album in the mail very
soon (in fact any time now). So much for CDNOW's promise of delivering
the album on the release date. :P At least they still sell "AWAKE"
    T-shirts. :)

Anyways, I've already heard most of the whole thing anyways, so let me
post my comments: WOW! I am impressed. I didn't think RUSH had it in
them to produce another vital, energetic album. Obviously I was wrong.
Kudos to the all-time masters of progrock for a job well done.

Yeah, the keyboards are missing... but I think they've outgrown most of
the keyboard tricks they have used in the past. I think the harder,
heavier sound suits them well. I am looking forward to having a copy of
this in my hot little hands, hopefully tomorrow?

    RE: FTP and WWW site:

Since TFE has already been released, I am going to remove my RUSH audio
files from my FTP server. I don't think it makes much sense for me to
keep them around, now that many JAMMERS either own or plan on getting the
album. Plus, my ISP has been giving me some flak (sp?) for the 20Mb disk
    space I'm taking up. :)

I'm finding it difficult to keep my YtseWeb pages updated, too. I am
thinking of ditching the project entirely, or passing it off to some
sucker^H^H^H^H^H^Hvolunteer who has more time to code HTML. Perhaps Mr.
Merlo could take this over and add this to his DT page? It'd go nicely
    with the FAQ. :)

No big loss, though. It was fun while it lasted. Any volunteers?

RE: Rick Terry: If there's anything that I or any other Ytsejammer can
do to help you and your wife through these trying times, just let us
know. I totally understand what you're going through... my youngest
sister has been through many surgeries to correct a messed-up hip, and I
know what it's like to help tend someone 24-7. It was not easy, and
certainly not fun. But, everything turned out okay.

But the worst part was changing the bedpans. :P

RE: Damon! Long time no see, dude! Glad to see you back in full force
after a long summer break. I always get a kick out of reading your posts.

news about Metro II or a double-album? I haven't been paying THAT much
    attention to JAMS lately. :>

RE: MTV Feedback: Congratulations to Scotch for a very well-written and
hilarious letter to MTV's feedback site. I nearly wet myself after
reading that letter... I had to go back and read it again (and wipe up
the chair) to make sure I saw it right.

    So, any responses yet?

Well, that's about it for now. Talk at y'all later,

Well, I said in #1812 that I was going to post this Tuesday (this being 3am
Wednesday), but my car had evil problems and I have just now caught up on
    the past EIGHT 'jams.

I've gotten one positive feedback and zero other notices, so here you are.
I warned you. YOU HAD YOUR CHANCE!!! Bwahahahaha -- er, wait, this isn't
alt.2600. Oh, and I loved that letter, Scott! YES! I plan to distribute
it to some of my buddies, which means it'll probably get all over the 'net
    by next week.

As I said before, this was inspired by the quality and depth of the lyrics
DT usually has (though it's not a "bash-the-Catholic-church" theme which JP
seems so fond of); however, it's rather more macabre than DT's stuff (what
do you expect, I was born on the same day as Edgar Poe! well, so was Janis
Joplin). There are two lines in particular which really annoy me, they are
trite these days (Stanza 4, lines 7 & 8). I'm posting in order to get
feedback/suggestions/CONSTRUCTIVE criticism. If you want to flame me, send
it to me personally; this list has a reputation for being friendly and I'd
not like to air YOUR dirty laundry in our little town. KnowhutImean, Vern?

Oh, and it doesn't exactly rhyme. There's a rhyme scheme, but it's
internal; if it's sung rather than spoken it'd stick out more. And like the
stanzas in "The Killing Hand", the titles are silent, for visual effect
    only. The narrator is female.

    FOR WANT OF A SMILE

    I. The Blind
    Midnight moon radiates stolidity
Bats fly low across the road
Warm soft wings, cold sharp teeth
    Invisible echoes obscure the eve.
A soul lurks, breathless lest shrouds
            become unmasked.
    Aware of hidden anger
    Waiting for a stranger somewhere
To be preserved on a celluloid strip.
    I know you're coming.

    II. The Hunt
    It's happened before; I wasn't ready.
You caught me at the witching hour,
Lingering sunset bleeding in your eyes
    Twilight darkening your pale skin
    Dressed in black velvet
    Dressed to kill
Black velvet voice of yours took me by surprise.
    Imprisoned me in those orbs
Redemption cast away on a sinking ship
    Lost now, for eternity.

    III. Desolation
I can't sleep at night, tortured
    Old Sol is too bright
My heart is dark without you
But darker still knowing you exist.
    I roam the streets
    Contacting people I'll never meet
Printing on fiber and bound in my room
I'm only looking for one thing --
    I want a smile I can keep
Even if I have to steal it.

    IV. Bloodlust
I wait for you with bated breath
Across the road, under the bridge
    Trolling for just a glimpse
Palm of your hand, nape of your neck...
Car door closes and I exit my reverie
Another one shuts -- you're not alone!
Long ago my psyche's portal was locked,
    You hold the key. Thief.
    Unaware of rising danger
    She's oblivious to my anger

    V. The Act
    She adores you, beautiful fool.
Will you enslave her soul as you did mine?
    Something makes me shudder
As I aim and fire the shutter.
    Incompletely conscious of the view
But I know I've captured your smile.
    Continuing with your charms you
Steal her dreams with velvet arms
Your love is an empty pit.
I fire again as you kiss her throat.

    VI. Vengeance
Some nights later I stir the bath
    Drop in the undeveloped film
    Concentration -- agitation
    The timing must be perfect
Watch the photos come up, then
I lay you down to dry
I'll hide your face in my dark locked room
    Waiting every night, sleepless
    For want of a smile.

So print this off, tack it up on the bathroom walls. Think about it.
Digest it slowly, then print off another copy and read it again. (Ex-Lax
will work wonders on that first copy...) When you have a question, email me
("What is 'The Blind'?") and I shall answer a few in a future 'jam ("it's a
place you hide, like in duck hunting").

And if those Special People Whom We Would All LOVE To Hear From On Your
Fanclub List happen to see it and like it, well, we can talk. But I want a cut.

    Pax,
    Jazzmin Sommers
    jazzmin@ou.edu

I feel like I should not have to say this, but to CMA I shall: If you steal
this I will sue your ass off, I don't care WHO you think you are, IT'S MINE.
    BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!
