i dont mind seeing someone post a lot for certain reasons, but if the only
reason someone sends a bunch of posts instead of one is just to get a most
frequent poster spot then it DOES start to bother me.

from what i understand damon uses text-to-speech so he cant really group all
his responses at once reading each little section he wants to reply to
individually when he's ready to write, so no bitch there...

lets just try and keep it to that, cuz i think the most frequent poster list
is a fun thing, but it shouldnt be a competition... well at least not at
measures where people fill half the jam with their posts. nothing against
anyone who does it, i'm not going to hold a grudge to anyone, just think it
    through first.

    Hi,

For the few of you that are also in Van Halen, this is info I got from a
reliable source about the next VH singer. He is a person in the music
business who pretty much has good info. He predicted that Sammy would leave
shortly before the announcement was made. So with that in mind, here's what
was said about the future of VH.

    >Well, my info is that last Friday there was a meeting at 5150
    >where it was decided that Dave will not be working with the
    >band anymore. Dave was supposedly at this meeting. I
    >assumed that Monday's Howard Stern appearance would
    >feature a full testimony by Dave and he didn't say a thing.
    >
    >I think that he may be humoring Ed and hoping that the
    >GH sells like crazy and Ed changes his mind. I think
    >that it's pretty much a lock with Cherone, though. He
    >flew back to Boston the day of the MTV VMA after a
    >little over a week of staying with Ed. I'd say it's a done deal.

Hey! I'm right now connecting myself again and getting my 224 mails.
After being for 3 days without electricity and water it's pretty good to
be turning on the pc and seeing that no matter how much water got into
your car and other things, your pc didn't suffer much, phew. So since I
might have to erase all mails without actually reading them, can anyone
tell me what happened (if anything) with that mail to MTV someone
posted? Yeah the one that made the new standard in criticism which
deserves to be in every Dream Theater page.
Later, gotta go dry up my car seats...

Seeing as you hate everyone and everything, I'm not gonna take this too seriously... From what I've heard and seen on the #Ytsejam you're trying your best to make everyone and everything hate you back too... If that's what you want, go ahead... I'd much rather make friends... But that's just me, I guess...

If you really hate my list *that* much, I *might* just post *another* one, next month, just to piss you off >:) Maybe I'll start the list at poster nr. 3, leaving out the nr. 1 and nr. 2 Most Frequent Posters !

And that's supposed to make it alright ?

Oh yeah, "Test for Echo" is brilliant !!! Rush Rulez !!! I originally liked "Counterparts' better, but I'm starting to think this is by far the best album they've released in years :-) Get it, NOW !!! (It takes time to *fully* appreciate it, though)

Secondly, before we send mail to Noise should we check if it is something that Bernd and the guys want us do to or don't mind if we do it. I wouldn't won't to get the lads into any sorta shit with Noise at this early stage of their wildy promising career. I dunno, just a thought.

They were here like two weeks ago. Although they were opening for other bands and the concert was only, like, 30 minutes, I loved it. To be frank, I didn't know any of them, nad now want to buy everything. King Diamond is sure one of the best on the stage. The equipment didn't help very much, you almost coud not hear the guitars, but it was surely one of the best concerts in the day (there were 9 bands).

WOW, 5 jams in ONE DAY!!!!!!!!! (so far!!!)

Since some other people on this list are brazen enough to send a reply to virtually every post, even their own, I will no longer worry too much about taking up some bandwidth of my own. Not to worry though, I have NO intention of over doing it ( I guess that is a relative statement, but deal).

On the James' Voice thing. I became aware of some shortcomings of his live performance when I saw LiT (HATE to admit it, but I have yet to see them perform LIVE; being an 'older' jammer, I find getting to concerts more of a challenge nowadays). Listening to him live, it sounds to me that he tries to achieve peaks as high as he does on the studio albums. But, unfortunately, when he performs live I have to believe that he is not rested enough to achieve what he can on a studio album. But to his credit, he does better than I believe most do.

Regarding the "lack of emotion' I totally agree. To me, he seems to be a technical singer. He enunciates fairly well, he has great timing and puts the emphasis in the right places (on the STUDIO Albums), but even where he is singing his GUTS out with everything he has, he does not elicit many different emotions in me. He definitely projects energy, but I am rarely moved into anything other than awe and or a 'rockin' feeling (with the possible exception of TSM). When I compare him to other singers like Fish or Peter Gabriel (only for this post, I normally would not think of comparing these singers), I find him lacking in the ability to elicit a very wide range of emotion. But then again, I usually rely on the MUSIC to do the emotional manipulation as a whole. For instance, I am quite often moved by Todd Rundgren's guitars on the Bat out of Hell album (just a little FYI for those who do not know, Todd Rundgren and his backing band Utopia were the band for Meatloaf's first LP, and IMO the true reason for this album's phenomenal success) with Meatloaf's vocals.

One other comment on this voice thing. DT does not seem to me to be the kind of band that NEEDS an emotional dynamo in their vocals. The SONG is what is truly moving us, the vocals are just a part of the whole. The MESSAGES in the songs do not seem to REQUIRE too much emotional range, the music carries the bulk of that responsibility, IMO.

On to Fates Warning: with all of this talk recently over FW, I broke out my Parallels CD. Did anyone notice that the old guy on the cover is the same old guy as in Metallica's Video for Enter Sandman (I think).

KMadden--- you are in Fort Collins, I went there for two years, stayed in 'ol Ingersoll Hall (Ultima Thule), is that town still a great place to live or what????

To the keeper of the Jam Stats (itchy??), Many thanks for doing something, ANYTHING that might help cut down on some of the frivolous posts.

To our Canadian Friend Rterry, I will add my light and love to the many others' expressed here. I don't really like doing this though as it seems to me to be rather hollow means of expressing empathy, but I guess it's all we can offer to you guys for now, so take care and keep the proper perspective on things.

Let's see, what else......I hope to pick up the New Type-O this weekend as well as Melon Collie, TfE, and the Escape from LA soundtrack. Maybe I'll try out Cairo or Savatage too. As always, I'll be sure to report my thoughts on them if I think anything is original or worth saying.

    until then, L8R, Brian
