I'M NOT THROUGH) at posting sometimes. Well, last post I quoted
Damon and was gonna say how that was a really good point and all that
skloob, but I got a phone call and just hit paste and forgot. Sorry.

And Ben... Caught in a Web?

    AARRGGGGHHH!!

i think i'm gonna scream if everybody is so damn persistent in
spelling "definitely" as "definately", "weird" as "wierd", "their" as
"there or "they're" and vice versa... this is just way too much.

they teach english lots more in estonia than in the states, methinks.

Hey guys, guess who's finally back on the jam! It's been like 5 long months
that I haven't read a jam and it's getting me crazy. And no, it that span
of time, I didn't fall of the face of earth. It's been my bad and all that
    I didn't subscribe back on.

Anyway, I can't wait for all the shit coming up really soon. Ytsecon is
going to be a blast. I can't wait to meet all you at the Marriott or
wherever the thing is going on. Hmmm, I said that I can't wait for all the
shit. What else am I forgetting about? What's coming up real soon. Someone
tell me!! I have lots of making up in knowing what's going on in DT world
    and the Prog world.

So, I guess that I'm going to go. It's 5am and I should get some sleep
before I go to work at 12 and then actually meet someone after work. :)
Yes, to all my friends on over in Skadz's DT server, the reason why I
haven't been online is because I cyber-flirt everyday and I think I FINALLY
found someone because of that. And I bet all you folks thought that
cyber-flirting was a waste of time which was never successful. Anyway, see
you all later, on the DT server, and of course at the con.

I'm pleased to report that Atlanta's 96rock has rediscovered hard
music again after several years of competing with another local
station that ran a "classic rock" format. Well, that other station
has thrown in the towel, format-wise, and is playing softer rock/pop
hits....which frees up 96rock to compete with 99-X, our hardcharging
    mallternative station.

What does this mean? IT MEANS IT'S TIME ONCE AGAIN TO REQUEST DREAM
    THEATER. :)

My friends, this is a great opportunity to get DT back on the airwaves
here in the nation's 12th largest market, a city where they haven't
been played on the air since the second leg of the I&W tour. Even if
you aren't local, you can help. I -really- think they're ripe for the
picking; the station's numbers have been butchered by the
mallternative station and they've got to pick up the pace with stuff
    the other station won't play.

The station's number is 404-741-9696, and the best times to call would
be between 4 and 9pm. (After 10pm the deejay will originate in Tampa,
or that's what RADIO & RECORDS is reporting.) I'd suggest requesting
"Pull Me Under" since it's one they have played before. One good
approach is to say "Hey, are you allowed to play any Dream Theater?"
-- I've found that deejays will get just a tad defensive and are more
likely to either accede to your request....or explain, without
bullshitting you, why they can't. (My usual approach is to pretend
I -just- moved down from, say, NY or Detroit and I can't figure out why
DT isn't played at all down here when they get played a lot up there.
Deejays tend to commiserate with that. :))

If they ask you where you're calling from, as a check to see if you
are local, answer with "Marietta," "Stone Mountain," "Norcross" or
other suburbs (on any decent map).

I truly hope this is a harbinger of things to come. Could it be hard
rock and metal is making a comeback? Sure hope so!

    Thanks for your support! :)

Greetings fellow jammers. I work in a machine shop that has been hiring new employees like they work for free. I was pleasantly surprised when I got a new guy in the dept. that heard "The Mirror" and actually KNEW what the song was. He asked me about WDADU and I told him that I have a cd and he asked if he could get one. I haven't been cd shopping lately, so I don't know if the disc is still in print or not. E-mail me privately at gsrockr@en.com and lemme know if you have seen the disc lately. I can find LATM, I&W, Awake, and ACOS without any trouble, but when I was looking for the DT singles, I don't think I saw ANY copies of WDADU.

OK. Lots of stuff. First, for God's sake, we all like DT. That's why we're on this list. Why do we have to flame each other's oppinions so much? Everyone is different and so the world works to some extent until people get upset about it. Also, listen to Another day and that Rush song, I think it's the Universal Dream. Living on the lighted stage approaches the unreal... etc. Reguarding Pull me Under, the band ran out of tape when they were recording it and just left the ending cut off. I heard that the first time I heard the song on the radeo. The snake-charmer's scale is the phrygian dominant scale. It's basically a phrygian scale with a natural 3 and a natural seven. At least, I think that's what someone was talking about. OK. Later. Matt B

    >Okay, whoever this guy is,

    I live in BRASIL.

    >I hope he's ashamed of himself, because he >just made himself look like a fool on the whole ytsejam!

Well, I'm not ashamed of myself and I am no fool at all. I love RUSH, but I have a very critical opinion about WHAT IS GOOD MUSIC. The difference between you and me is that I KNOW EXACTLY WHAT I WANT TO HEAR. It doesn't happen with you. You're so FANATIC RUSH FAN THAT EVERY RUSH RELEASE YOU SAY IT'S GOOD ONLY BECAUSE IT'S A "RUSH" ALBUM. Where is your critical sense ? Well, I think you have no brains at all...

Everybody knows that RUSH was a PROGRESSIVE BAND in the 70's, but RUSH became a COMMERCIAL BAND in the 80's. The same thing happened with YES and GENESIS in the 80's. You may think I'm radical , but it's not true. I listen to a lot of different music styles (Progressive, Metal, Blues, Jazz, ...), but one thing I really can't stand is POP MUSIC. I DON'T FORGIVE RUSH : THEY BETRAYED THE PROGRESSIVE MUSIC IDEAL. They turned on a POP MUSIC STYLE, and sold out themselves. They decided to make music to set RADIO STATIONS playlist and MTV.

You know, they did not care about music quality, they were only interested in making easy money. They wanted to become milionaire. I am not a communist (and I will never be one), but I condemm this attitude. And one reason I really love DREAM THEATER is because DT'S music IS AS GOOD AS OLD PROGRESSIVE RUSH STYLE. And I hope DREAM THEATER WILL NOT BECOME A COMMERCIAL BAND AS RUSH BECAME.

    >>Well, albums from "Signals" to "Roll the Bones" are no good, >>most DREAM THEATER fans know that

    >Well, sorry to crush your hopes of trying to sound like you know what >your talking about, but most DREAM THEATER fans (and now we know how much >of a DT fan you're NOT) know that these albums were VERY heavy influences >in DT's music. Just listen to SIGNALS, GRACE UNDER PRESSURE, HOLD YOUR >FIRE, POWER WINDOWS, PRESTO, and ROLL THE BONES!!! They are fucking >AWESOME.

They are fuckin' TRASH. I'd put them in a trash can. An excelent RUSH album is something like "2112", "Hemispheres", "Fly by Night". But I tell you what : "Conterparts" is a nice album. And I dig "Test for Echo " !!!! :)))))

    >I mean just LISTEN to the keyboard backings and all around >musical composition, and any idiot can see that it was a definite >influence on DT.

Well, I think I'm talking with a idiot in some place. It seems to me you haven't read DT FAQ. DT Keyboard was inlfuenced by YES. It seems to me you never listened to YES ALBUM, FRAGILLE, TALES FROM TOPOGRAPHICS OCEANS, ...

    >saying that those later RUSH albums are no good is a pretty bold, but >very uneducated statement. But to generalize that most DT fans *KNOW* that >they are no good is just plain stupid!

Well, generalizing is a very dangerous thing, I agree with you in this statement. Hey man, what do you think you are ? Are you really a PROGRESSIVE MUSIC FAN ??? Or maybe you are a POP MUSIC FAN (which is not that bad at all....). Well, SIGNALS, GRACE UNDER PRESSURE, HOLD YOUR FIRE, POWER WINDOWS, PRESTO, and ROLL THE BONES sounds to me like a crossover between U2 and THE POLICE and I'm really not interested in those bands. I'm interested in PROGRESSIVE MUSIC.

Hey, why don't you listen to Bon Jovi or Green Day stuff ??? (Arghhh......)

LONG LIVE PROGRESSIVE ROCK !!! PROGRESSIVE ROCK WILL NEVER DIE !!!

Notice I'm not gonna bash the abnd and >say that their pre-signals stuff is no good, just typical 70's poor >production, and sounds of a band striving find their sense of being

Well, it depends on what you mean it's good for you.

In my opinion PROGRESSIVE MUSIC is GOOD MUSIC, and POP MUSIC IS BAD MUSIC.

So, I think RUSH Pre-Signals production is really great. If you enjoy PROGRESSIVE ROCK as I do, you should buy RUSH Pre-Signals production.

For people who prefer POP MUSIC, I do recommend post-signals stuff.

I'm a DT fan, but I don't like the 80's ROCK. I DO HATE BANDS LIKE U2, THE CURE, THE SMITHS, JESUS AND MARY CHAIN. THAT'S THE REASONS THAT I HATE POST-SIGNALS STUFF : THEY SOUND LIKE THE 80'S ROCK, maybe a crossover between U2 and POLICE...

I felt in love with 60's and 70's ROCK. I LOVE SANTANA, JIMI HENDRIX, LED ZEPPELIN, DEEP PURPLE, BLACK SABBATH, DIXIE DREGS, EMERSON,LAKE&PALMER, YES, RUSH, PINK FLOYD, GENESIS, TRIUNVIRAT, TEN YEARS AFTER, NECKTAR, RENAISSANCE, RICK WAKEMAN, TANGERINE DREAM, ALLMAN BROTHERS BAND ...

The only thing I like in the 80's is the HEAVY STUFF : JOE SATRIANI, YNGWIE MALMSTEEN, STEVE VAI, STEVE MORSE, METTALICA, IRON MAIDEN, LIVING COLOUR.

Well, I don't like POP MUSIC. Right now, I'm interested only in PROGRESSIVE MUSIC and METAL.

People who have had read DT FAQ should know that KELVIN MOORE was kicked out of DT because he was not interested anymore in Progressive Music. His tastes have changed along the years. He became interested in Industrial and Tecno (I hate both styles).

i hearby ditch the term "progressive" from my musical vocabulary.. this is becoming insane. I personally could care less what the type of music i'm listening to is classified as.. just because rush and yes evolved a bit, and wrote some NEW songs, and got some radio airplay and a lot of people like them (yeah thats always a bands downfall, when people start to LIKE them), i'm not going to ridicule them.. you say it as if its black death.. i happen to like a lot what you probably put under "commercial music" it just frankly doesnt matter to me who else likes it or doesnt, as long as I like it.. i've mentioned bands before where people have shot them down without even hearing a note just because they know they fit on the "alternative" scene, and it drives me insane.. haha, now i'm going to get out an old nirvana CD and enjoy it just because of all this nirvana bashing i see... come on guys, bashing on Nirvana and NIN because theyre 'trendy' is a worse trend than LIKING THEM. and i'd much rather hang with someone who likes em than someone who hates em, for obvious reasons, i dont wanna hear how much they think they suck whenever i try and enjoy it, and i'd also bet ya i'd have a better time at a concert... who wants to sit around and go "this opening act sucks" ?

Since i see everyone fighting about what it is to be progressive, lemme ask you:

    What is it progressing from?

Why do we call music "alternative", when it's now the norm, hmmm?

Why do we call music "progressive", but not know where it's progressing from.
