I downloaded the entire show. Hell already burned it to cd and listened to
it on the way to workthis morning.

I wanted the actual video of the show though.

    Hello everyone,

Speaking of DT being played at sporting events, I was at the Patriots =

halftime. Wasn't much, but it got me thru halftime. My friends all =
thought I was an idiot when I started cheering and yelling, 'oh my =

Well I don't have my copy to hand - its on extended loan to a brazillian
friend, but I know that myself and a bunch of other Jammers (Hi Mark, Ties,
Bart) were there for two of the gigs. See my reviews for more details.

Fri 17/04/98: Palais D'Auron, Bourges, France (support to Vanden Plas and DT)
    http://www.servemode.co.uk/Charlie/live/1998/19980417-2.htm

Sat 18/04/98: Cafe de la Danse, Paris, France (they were supposed to be
supporting Royal Hunt - but the Danes cancelled as they always seem to do in
France), so 4 of the guys from Vanden Plas, plus Bernd and Michael from
Superior (who went to the previous nights gig on the same coach as the rest of
us) played a bunch of covers and stuff
    http://www.servemode.co.uk/Charlie/live/1998/19980418.htm

I think that the final stuff was from an in-store appearance at the Virgin
Megastore in Paris (if my memory serves me right). Unfortunately I turned up 2
hours late for that one :-(. you can find a few more details at

Most people seem to think she committed suicide. However, I've always

Yeah, this was my interpretation as well. I never understood all the "what happened to Mary" discussions - for me it's pretty obvious. I think people just don't like to believe the obvious thing - "there just MUST be something deeper in there.. it's a PROGRESSIVE band, for chrissake!" Hehe...

Everyone check out Lines in the Sand. New stuff is up (the recent Orlando show (which I was at, I might add), Munich from 99, etc) and will continue to flow for the forseeable future. Scott Hanson also just joined the team to help us our with the Tourography (setlists for every show DT has played - woohoo!)section. That's a big job, so many thanks to Scott. Enjoy!

Absolutely! Both Jane Child and Sebastian Bach needed to be hit with concrete sidewalk slabs in the Eighties [See, I did it again].

All I know, is that Daryl Hall used that as the title of a song on his second solo album, Three Hearts in a Happy Ending Machine. Good song; odd idiom.

Speaking as one who actually works in Bethesda, but lives in DC, would you then consider Kensington to be East Bethesda? And Potomac as Northwest Bethesda? There was an article in the NY Times magazine about Bethesda which was rather uncomplimentary; my officemates believe he was down to cover the unfolding Elian soap opera and was snubbed when he asked the wrong people the wrong questions. I thought they were acting a trifle too defensive.

I think both Creed and DotN have alot of potential to write really good songs, but that they haven't realized it yet. Many of their songs seem to be extremely repetetive, never varying the main riff at all (this is especially apparent on their respective debut albums)

    > how much of a crowd does the Roseland accomodate?

I seem to recall somebody saying it was in the 2500-3000 range, though now that I'm thinking about it, that seems a bit high.

I asked this once before, maybe this time somebody else will hear me. Do any of you have any info / opinions / knowledge of the National Summer Guitar Workshop in New Milford, CT? I'm interested in attending it, but it's $700, and I'd rather not go if it's a waste of time.

Damn, I swear it's been 3 months since I've posted! I've been so swamped.. anyways.. here my response to Frans' post.

Fran, I beg to differ here. I have been to 12 DT concerts (sure, I'm not special as I know Skadz has been to FAR more) however, I think after going to more than 11, I can make this opinion... James is a phenomenal singer in concert.. his ability to show his ability is up to the stage crew. Sure, I've seen him crack a few times.. but you know what? The guy is singing notes that the Vienna Choir Boys can't hit. I'd expect a crack here and there. I must admit however, that James has always been best (when I've seen him) at Toad's Place in New Haven. Absolutely amazing. Was anyone else there when DT did that "scaled down" x-mas set (One of DS' last shows), when James hit that high note on "Oh holy night" that just about made me pass out and I actually watched James' eyes come out of his head a little bit. Truly amazing. IMO, if James sounds off, it's because of the stage crew. The guy spends far too long warming up and is too well-trained to be off that often. ROCK ON! Or is this just being symbolic here or something? Wow, 12 years later and we're still talking about this! -Mike C.

Is it possible that Dr. X had intended to kill Mary then but maybe when he got there, he found her dead by her own hands already? Just a thought... -Mike C.

    Hello jammers,

I'm just listening to Transatlantic (Limited Edition) which I got on Moday. It is simply an amazing album and some parts are absolutely awesome. As a drummer I am amazed by wonderful rhythm section and Pete Trewavas is a big surprise for me as well. Especially kickin' bass grove around 13:00 of 'All Above'. Every project Portnoy was involved in was superb (LTE, Working Man) and this is another one. I admit that someone finally created pure progressive rock CD. If you don't have it, go and get it.

    Later, Martin

PS: Honky Tonk cover kicks ass! :-)

I've had a couple of people email me about the CD tree that I mentioned earlier. The MadTabber asked me to let everyone know where it is at.

You can find a link to it at The Petrucci Files website:

    http://www.snowhill.com/~bvaughn/petrucci.htm

Look under the picture of JP, and you will see a link for it. It is also in the news section.

The first tree for the Roseland CDs is underway until April 30! HOB is about to go up for sign-up as well.

By the way, we know that HOB is on Lines in the Sand for free. But this is going to be a "better than MP3" quality CD, with none of the pops between songs that we've all grown to love about MP3.

Future projects include the St. Louis CD, and SFAM videos (you know, the ones they are selling for $50 for on Ebay).

    STOP THE GREED!!!

This is your chance to get some great Dream Theater!

All TRUE fans, please help contribute material (or get involved in some trading). If you have stuff you'd like to contribute or trade, send an email to The MadTabber at themadtabber@hotmail.com. You can also email me the info, but I have to pass it on to him.

    Thanks, Brandon

Even with all the CDs I've been buying over the last two months, this was the one I was anticipating the most (along w/ the limited ed. Transatlantic, which I am still waiting to arive). I'm one of the few that actually prefers the second XMas CD over the first, but after one listen to the new one, this one completely blows the two XMas CDs away. And that's saying a lot, because I really like both XMas CDs.

OK, I have to chime in here. Yes, James is an amazing singer. but let me make my case for something here.

Images and Words tour--Live at the Marqui, Dance of eternity, Milan 93 bootlegs as sources. Yes, Live at the Marqui is overdubbed. But, however, James was singing all the images and Words songs accurately, even embellishing a little on higher notes which was awesome.

falling into Infinity tour--Bootlegs i have heard off lines in the snad. It seems that James has lost a lot of his higher range here. Whee as iwth the IW tour, Under a glass moon's high notes wee spot on, FII shows James fading away into cracks and growls here. Metropolis's middle section, "As a Child, I thought I coud live without pain..." he is struggling. take the Time has always been kind of tough for him live, but he especially has troubles with this one sometimes on tour. and of course, he doesn't try to reach that stratospheric high note in Pull me Under anymore towards the end like he did on the Images and Words tour. This is not to say James cannot sing. i think age may be creeping up on him, though. You tend to lose your upper register as you get older and i think that is what happens to james. Now, to contradict myself a little, when he did Since I've been Loving you at the xmas 98 shows, I was on the floor with those notes and the power and emotion behind them. Maybe it was a lucky shot. I know James has to warm up forever before a show. Maybe he can't always hear himself on sage, but one cnnot deny that he does not have the range he used to have back in 1993, and for perfectly good reason. SEven years have passed, and the man is getting older. Your voice cannot stay at peak performance forever. I just hope it doesn't degenerate to the point where DT has to start transposing songs down 3 or four steps to get James to sing them well, the way ELP, Yes and even Rush and especially Genesis have had to do. Hey, another totally a propos question... how much of a crowd does the Roseland accomodate? I've been surfing on the web (including the Roseland's website) and haven't been able to find out this information. It might have come up during the concert reviews, but I am really interested to know since I was there and it was sold out. :)
