Just like in TSCO where Petrucci comes out of a beautiful, passionate solo
and then speeds up to shred as if he this was an LTE album. I just don't see
how people can complain about Jordan yet Petrucci's shred-fest is "ok."
Listen to the ending of THE when they play it live. That's a serious case of
    overplaying if you ask me.

I havent had the oportunity to hear THE live, but in the spirit carries on, JP's
solo w/ the fast runs fits well there, because the songs is by no means winding
down!, its the building up point leading up to the climax , the last chorus,
when james sings it higher and the female singers' gospel "vocalizing" is heard
    louder.

It wouldve been wankery if he were to have shredded his way out of the end of
the song, where the piano is doing its thing, with the female singer vocalizing
alone, THAT wouldve been out of place...

For the most part, I agree with you. Jordan happens to be my least favorite
    DT key guy so far

that is too bad...he is by far better than DS and to put him over jordan in
all categories is most unfortunate to you...u just dont see were JR is coming
from....now someone else said that they wish that JR could play some slow
moody type things well then check out his solo stuff...he has to great moody
albums...and he has only played On 1 Dt album remember that....im sure down
the road we will see some Moody stuff Relax!

The solo in TSCO fit very well, but the solo at the beginning of THE live was
completely tasteless, as was most of Jordan's solo, IMO. In fact, most of
their individual solos I find to be completely pointless.

I know that Bogie is going to be uploading this thing to LitS, but for
anybody who doesn't have the time to download this show, I have it all
ready for burning. It's GREAT quality, and for any of you who "couldn't
afford" to do the Pay-Per-View on it for the broadband, shame on you.
(Those of you who don't have high-speed Internet access are waived from
this dressing-down. THIS time.) It was an incredible show, and I did
manage to get an audio recording of it. It's in its raw stages right now
(I'm going to do a little cleaning up here and there, see if I can't make
it sound a little better in places), but if anybody is willing to make a
    trade, I'm all ears.

Just be aware that I have NO blank CDs and as such I won't be able to burn
any until I can buy some, but we can still work something out if you're
    interested.

I'm not sure who else did record this besides me and Bogie (just the audio
portion, that is), but if you did, contact me and maybe we can do a sort
of tree-type thing with it. This is DEFINITELY a must-have for any boot
collector, because of its extraordinarily high quality (I don't
necessarily mean MY recording, I just mean the show itself).

    Hi all

I had the opportunity of seeing Dream Theater in
Offenbach, Germany on Saturday, and I would like to
thank each member of the band personally for ruining
any other concert that I may be going to for the rest
of this year. Nothing, simply nothing will even
vaguely compare to the performance that the boys put on over the weekend.
Stunning? Stunned more like it. The
normal moronic head banging movement was universally
replaced by people shaking their heads in disbelief.
Everybody knows that it's impossible to play music
like "Scenes From A Memory" live, yet their were
5 people up on the stage doing just that, and in
perfection. Bastards! Couldn't they have made just
one little mistake? I'll bet a lot of musicians in
the audience went home after the concert and burned
their instruments. I've been going to concerts now
for some 28 years, and this has to be one of the best
performances, if not the best performance, that I've
seen and heard by anybody. It was my 5th time for
Dream Theater, and I've never experienced them this
good before. Sometimes in some of the intrumental
passages I almost had to pinch myself to remind myself
that this wasn't the CD, but rather that it was being
played live. To all you people who have tickets for the
remaining shows - I envy you. And hire Jordan if you're
holding a wedding or a party soon.

    stay safe and happy listening

PS It was nice to see Spock's Beard go down so well:
a great (if too short) set from a band that always comes
    up with the goods.

I don't particularly mind if he plays fast all the time (which he does). Its just one of
those things that he does, and that he does better than pretty much anyone else.
He does do slow moody stuff (check out Secret of the Muse). Its just slow and
moody with squillions of notes (which is a neat trick). I'd prefer to hear a musician do
stuff they can do well and leave the other stuff for other musicians.
Thats not to say that versatility isn't good, but it doesn't really matter unless you have
to work with the guy.... if you know what i mean.

I hope you all enjoyed the April Fool's Day FAQ joke. My sincere
apologies to any and all who got overly excited as a result. :)

If you missed it, you can still check it out from section 8.5 of the FAQ.

Speaking of the FAQ, I've put a legitimate update online. It has mostly
updates and corrections. Again, I am sorry for the lack of SFaM material,
I will add stuff in as soon as I get ahold of Portnoy.

Also, it seems there is no longer a link to the Official DT FAQ from the
Official DT website (www.dreamtheater.com). Until Mark corrects this
error, you will have to visit the FAQ directly at:

    http://www.gabbo.net/dt/faq/

While you are there, be sure to bookmark the FAQ directly so you always
have the most recent version. You can also check out my DT section for
some of my other DT resources, as well as the 1996 Ytsejam Mailing List
    t-shirts at a reduced price.

I think some of you need to cut Rolling Stone some slack.

If you cared to look inside the N'Sync cover issue, you'd had found
stories on Phish and Steely Dan, amongst other well written pieces of
    information.

You can't exactly blame them for not putting DT on the cover, RS covers
the important major events in pop culture and they do it better than
most. You COULD argue that they should mention DT in a "on tour" news
section, or review the album, or review a gig, but that's about it. Be
reasonable, their popularity and/or "star quality" doesn't measure up to
BSB or Eminem or whoever is considered "hot" by the masses.

For good quality pop/lifestyle journalism I'll gladly read RS, or even
better - Q and MOJO - for as long as I care about music. Q reviewed
OiaLT, Mojo usually reviews Spock's Beard, and has recently featured
long articles on King Crimson, Steely Dan and Pink Floyd. If you don't
care for RS, do check out MOJO. It's a retro-fan's wet dream!

I agree on the album thing, it's nice there, fits okay, no prob... But live...
man, that sucks !! I used to listen to a lot of guitars, and the more the
shredding, the happier I was ;-P But, these days it's more about the song, the
writing, the band playing together... Not about how good individual player can
move his fingers... Of course I understand that there are people who have come
to see that kinda thing, but sometimes they just go so over. IMHO at least ;)

Hey Louis. I just ordered their cd last night from Lasers
Edge along with the new Platypus. I didn't even know it
had been released until I checked at Lasers Edge. The
soundclips I've heard do rock and I can't wait to get this
cd. It has two of my favorite Musicians: Sean Malone and
Sean Reinert. thanks for the link to their website.

    Hey, jammers.

If you've ever experienced oldsk00l ASCII text file madness, you've probably
seen everything from anarchy files to silly stories to song lyrics.

Well, I'm currently working on an upcoming issue of aNAda e'zine that will
be the END-ALL, BE-ALL of lyrics text files. So far, I've got almost 400K of
lyrics, and that's just from two people

My goal is to make this file "Too Big For Floppy."

So my request is, SEND THE LYRICS TO ALL YOUR FAVORITE SONGS TO
    lyrics@anada.net -- Don't bother sending Dream Theater lyrics, they're
already there :) And Chroma Key as well.

The deadline is April 15. So either transcribe them yourself, steal them off
a website, or copy them from the liner notes. This file *will* have
copyright notices attached, so don't worry about that.

I'm serious. ANY OF YOUR FAVORITE SONGS. ALL OF THEM. I need a lot more
prog, a lot more European stuff, a lot more obscure things that people don't
hear every day. It will make me a happy girl.

Thanks for any help you can give!
