HEROCLIX FIGURE CHOICE TOP 10

My Criteria:
(1) Heroclix Community - How much the Heroclix community will enjoy the figure.
(2) Affinity - How much I like the figure / character.
(3) Playability - How playable the figure is likely to be, Will it be fun to play? Will it see tournament play? This reflects how useful they will be in their role: A fig > 130 points as the spine of a team,
A fig > 50 < 130 points as a good secondary fig
A fig < 50 points as a utility or supporting cast on a team.
(4) Originality - A figure that is memorable, novel, unusual and unique. This also considers how unique the dial design will be.
(So as not to influence your vote I won't show my Affinity score yet...)
I'd be happy with any of these figs otherwise they wouldn't have made the top 10.
I'm allowing each person multiple votes in case you have a mental-tie.
Thanks for your input!
-Ben

AND THE WINNER IS ....
STAN LEE (12/28/1922 - )
First Appearance: Fantastic Four #10, Stan Lee Meets (Spider-Man, ...) (2006)
Est. Point Cost: 20-35
Keywords: (special)
Contributed by: Batman17 & input by UltimateWarrior (#4)
Link: Stan Lee
Stan Lee meets Dr. Doom
Stan Lee meets The Thing
Stan Lee meets Spider-Man

The father of modern comic books.
In 2006, Marvel commemorated Lee's 65 years with the company by publishing a series of one-shot comics starring Lee himself meeting and interacting with many of his creations, including Spider-Man, Dr. Strange, The Thing, Silver Surfer and Dr. Doom. These comics also featured short pieces by such comics creators as Joss Whedon and Fred Hembeck, as well as reprints of classic Lee-written adventures.
Some power possibilities are: (Not all of these would be used in the final design)
(1a) Damage Power ("Excelsior!", Inventor): He has Perplex to represent his outstanding, inventive genius.
(1b) or Damage Power ("Excelsior!", Leader): I could also see him having Leadership for his inspiring command of industry.
(2) Trait ("'Nuff said"): Before the beginning of the first turn choose a keyword. Stan Lee possesses that keyword for the game.
(3) Trait ("True Believer!") Choose a team symbol that belongs to a Marvel character on your force. Stan Lee possesses that team symbol.
(3a) or Team Symbol: Spider-man. [q.v. Cheapest WCs - Spid TA 37pt Night Thrasher Res w/ stealth-leadership sees no tourney play, 30pt Doombot 3095, 43pt Mano, 30pt Hellbaby]
(4) and/or Defense Power ("Face Front!") Stan Lee can replace his defense value with an adjacent Marvel character's unmodified defense value (including a replacement value).
and/or (5) Trait ("True Believer"): All Marvel feats assigned to Stan Lee costs 5 points less to assign to him. Victory points are still scored using the printed cost of the feat. Stan Lee can not be assigned more than 3 feats. from -Marlow
and/or (6) Trait - (Creator Rights) Stan Lee possesses the Fantastic Four and Avengers Team Symbol.
20-35 points, 8 AV, 1 Damage, 7 Move, 15 DV. 3 - 4 clicks of life (He is 86).
NIGHTCRAWLER & MYSTIQUE (DUO, TRANSPORTER)
First Appearance: Nightcrawler: GS Xmen#1 (May 1975)
Mystique: Ms. Marvel #17 (June 1978)
Est. Point Cost: 90-110
Contributed by: 2 Gun Kid
Keywords: X-men, Brotherhood of Mutants
Link: Nightcrawler  /  Mystique

A fuzzy family pair! (Don't you see the resemblance in the eyes?)
Shape change, 6 range, Outwit,
Duo ability, transporter,
3 DmgV, 10 AV, 12 Move, 18 DV, Super Senses
Special Move Power (Combat Teleportation): NightCrawler and Mystique can use Stealth and Hypersonic speed. Once during a hypersonic speed action they can make a combat attack as a free action. If successful, they can "carry" the target character with him for the remainder of their movement -2. Give the target character an action token at the end of the action.
Duos made the list because they are more unique. I'd make sure these are playable Duos. -Ben
SHAW SENTINELS (GENERIC, GIANT)
First Appearance: X-Men volume 1 #14 (November 1965)
Est. Point Cost: 50, 75, or 100
Keywords: Armor, Robot
Contributed by: Tchipley
Link: Sentinel

A Giant fig Sentinel rather than a Colossal fig.
SP (Attack): Sentinel has the capture ability but can only capture one figure.
SP Hunter programming (Damage): At the beginning of the game choose a keyword or an opposing figure (presumably with no keywords), friendly figures gain +1 Attack when attacking figures with the chosen keyword. inspired from Dark Phoenix (hcrealms)
Flight, Toughness, Regeneration (Self-Repair), ESD, 8 Range,

mid-dial running shot
. opening 2 damage, mid-dial 3 damage,
opening 16, mid-dial 17 def,
opening 9AV, mid-dial 11 AV,
10 move.
Though sentinels are sometimes depicted as nigh indestructible robotic engines of destruction; there are other times where the X-men just mow through a crowd of them. This would represent a weaker form of Sentinel so that someone would field several of them on a 300pt team. I've always been kind of disappointed that Colossal Sentinels are easily shot down before they could get anything done. These might be easily shot down but they will be more point effective and you'll have more of them on the field. They would start weaker and grow more powerful as they adapt and compensate. Trying to keep the stats & powers reasonable to minimize point cost.
MARVEL GIRL & CYCLOPS DUO
First Appearance:Cyclops X-men #1 (Sep 1963)
Marvel Girl, X-Men #1 (Sep 1963)
Est. Point Cost: 100-150
Keywords: X-men, X-Factor, Psychic
Link: Cyclops / Marvel Girl

contributed from MarshallXIII
One of Marvel's quintessential pairs.
TK, Psiblast, RCE, 8 range, 3 damage, 10 AV, 17 DV ESD. Running shot,
Sharpshooter Damage Symbol (via telepathically coordinated shot)
GRANDMASTER (En Dwi Gast)
First Appearance: Avengers #69 (October 1969)
Est. Point Cost: 90-144
Contributed by: Input from The Werle & Maniac Clown
Keywords: Cosmic, Squadron Sinister
Link: Grandmaster

In searching for inspiration, I flipped through the Handbook of the Marvel Universe twice. "En Dwi Gast" is the Grandmaster, an Elder of the Universe.
"He has traveled throughout the known universe, studying intelligent civilization's various forms of games and play to the point of mastery."
(Wouldn't it be apropos for the World Champ of a Game to pick a master of games?) ... " He can retain many millions of rules to the games known throughout the universe."
Special Power (Dmg): Once during your turn, you can choose to have one of your characters roll 3d6 instead of 2d6 for an attack roll choosing the best 2 die for the result. If you do, your opponent gets to do the same on their turn.
Trait: If your team was not a theme team, it becomes a theme team sharing the "Cosmic" keyword.
TA: Power Cosmic
THE ANCIENT ONE
First Appearance: (as High Lama) Amazing Adventures #1 (1961)
(as Ancient One) Strange Tales #110 (1963)
Est. Point Cost: 75-160
Keywords: Mystical
Contributed by: jhunt (hcrealms).
Link: Ancient One

I like the Ancient One. Born over 500 years ago in Kamar-Taj, Tibet he was the teacher of Dr. Strange. He has vast magical abilities, and possessed the Book of the Vishanti, Orb/Amulet&Eye of Agamotto. I have read a fair amount of Dr. Strange both as a child and an adult. The Ancient One is an interesting character.
The Ancient One's magic, derived from three sources: powers of the soul, mind, and body, from developing one's own psychic resources (mesmerism, astral projection, thought-casting, etc.); powers from universe's ambient magical energy (teleportation, illusion-casting, energy projection, etc.); and powers from extradimensional energy by invoking entities or objects of power in mystical dimensions.
Astral projection, Teleportation (phasing/teleport), Mesmerize people (mind control), Telepathy (Psi-Blast or Incap), Telepathic range - the entire Earth (12 range), Form & hurl magical energy bolts (Psi-Blast), Transmutation (ESD), Flames of the Faltine, the Shades of the Seraphim, and the Hoary Hosts of Hoggoth, The Greater Book of the Vishanti, The Eye of Agamotto.
COLOSSUS & WOLVERINE (DUO)
First Appearance: Colossus: GS XMen#1 1975,
Wolverine: Incredible Hulk #180 (1974)
Est. Point Cost: 75-150
Keywords: X-Men, Armor
Link: Colossus / Wolverine

B/C/F - Superstrength - Invuln - Regeneration. Grounded, Range 0, Flurry, Special Power Fast Ball Special: Give this character a Power Action, it can move its full movement ignoring hindering terrain (essentially TKing itself) and then take a close combat action as a free action. The Fastball special for me is one of the quintessential phrases in the comic kingdom. It's right up there with "SPOON!". There was a very complex Fastball special Feat which was so complex no one used it. I think this full move charge is a pretty good representation of the toss, clean and simple.

FORGE
First Appearance: Uncanny X-Men #184 (Aug 1984)
Est. Point Cost: 60-100
Keyword: Soldier, Scientist, X-men, Mystical, X-Factor
Link: Forge

Forge's special power is to be able to invent something on the fly to deal with dangerous situations
Invention special power: Once during the game at the beginning of your turn, you can choose any other named or special power of an "attack" or "damage" type belonging to any other Heroclix figure. Forge can use that named or special power for the rest of the game. (Once the named or special power is chosen he can not change it). If Forge chooses a named or standard power they must be either attack or damage powers (i.e. you can't choose a movement power that is a granted by an attack special power).
or
Invention special power: If there are less than 7 special objects on the map, then Forge can take a power action to replace a standard adjacent object with any special object from outside of the game. (note to self: this could get abused with Garth or object making Hulk) from Quicksilver 9014
What makes team building fun is the interesting combinations and synergy between figures, feats, powers, and objects. I think the special power for Forge provides for customization and flexibility in team building. Choosing both "attack" or "damage" might be too much. If I did end up going with Forge I'm not sure if Wizkidsgames will accept this special power. Finally I think this power reflects Forge's ability to come up with an invention "on the spot" to deal with a particular situation. I would expect this power to cost a decent amount of points in dial design as well.
NIGHTCRAWLER & PROFESSOR X (DUO, TRANSPORTER)
First Appearance:Nightcrawler GS Xmen#1 May 1975
Prof X, X-Men #1 (Sep 1963)
Est. Point Cost: 90-130
Keywords: X-men, Illuminati, Psychic
Link: Nightcrawler   /   Professor X

Guided by a Telepathic link w/ Professor X, Nightcrawler, or when two leaders confer when NC is leading the X-men see Uncanny X-Men #193, p.16
This Duo Transporter would have Psychic Blast, Perplex or Outwit, 2 damage, Grounded. 10 AV, 10 move, 10 Range, 18 defense Super-senses.
Special Move Power (Combat Teleportation): Professor X and NightCrawler can use hypersonic speed. Once during a hypersonic speed action they can make a combat attack as a free action. If successful, they can "carry" the target character with him for the remainder of their movement -2. Give the target character an action token at the end of the action.
Trait (Telepathically guided): When Professor X and NightCrawler take a move or power action they can ignore the effects of terrain on movement (hindering, water, blocking, elevated, and walls).
GAMESMASTER
First Appearance: Uncanny X-Men #283 (December, 1991)
Est. Point Cost: 65-110
Keywords: (Upstarts)
Contributed by: malger

He is "Like Churchill's riddle wrapped in a mystery inside an enigma". Jeremy Stevens, has an omnipathic awareness places him in constant contact with every mind on the planet by way of the astral plane.
A nice meta-choice. A winner of a game choosing the game master...
Omnipath - Telepathy with all people in the world.
SP: Omnipath - Gamesmaster can use probability control but does not need line of sight to use it.
SP: Gamesmaster can use mind control, when he uses mind control he doesn't take feedback damage. from Adam Warlock
Perplex, Outwit, 12 range, 9AV, 17 DV, 2 damage
