well, might as well join in on this a little bit since its been such an
active and damned fun topic of discussion... i've been on the jam probably
about a half a year now... i first discovered the #ytsejam on EFnet one
evening back in december when i was searching for a DT chat room... i
believe it was Gabbo who was there, and later Augie popped in too... who let
me know about the dreamt. irc server, which had JUST gone into effect...
had i been a week, possibly even a day later, i'd've never found out about
this place. well... not right away anyway. the irc server was instantly a
killer... how much more wicked could you get... the only problem i had is
that i would NEVER get ops :) nowadays brand new people come in and get
opped just cuz someone, possibly even me, is trigger happy with the op
button. :) but back then (see, i'm already being nostalgic.. i'm gettin to
be an oooollldddd jammer, grinder;) unless you were on skadz's magic auto
ops list no ops for you :) i also remember a night from earlier when i hung
around which i still call to this day "rip on Rip night" i look back now
and figure it was all just jokes but at the time i really felt shit on...
but well, back then the guys just hadnt adjusted to my cow obsession... they
thought i had been up to it the previous night as a spur of the moment
thing... hahaha, boy were they in for a nice happy surprise. >:) the funny
thing is pretty much all the dudes there that eve later as i got the chance
to actually talk with em became really good ytse-buds of mine... shit this
is getting long isnt it? well, its not long right now but considering i'm
just getting wamred up i'll kill er off and just say that what i was going
to build up to... well hell you know what i was gonna say... :) this
place rocks and all you people rock. i went through a lot of crap and this
place was one of the only things (along with old Cheers re-runs) that kept
my spirits up... here friendship is different... you're not looking at
people pysically or the way they dress or how old they are or any of that...
the fact that we can become such great friends with people, without ever
opening our mouths, seeing them, hearing them, or tasting them (well ok, so
we dont taste all that many people)... but simply by putting thoughts down
to text, which is quite a thing to do, is simply amazing... i've got buds
in holland (Hi Mark! Hi Rudy!) whom i've never even been in the same country
with yet talked to daily... where else are you going to find THAT? long
live this place, you all rule to an unequivalence with other stuff that
rules. now lets keep this jam rollin'!
         :)

And the answer is ...... Eve. This release contains a 3" mini disc of Eve.
But you might want to make sure it does contain the bonus CD. Hey the First
thing I do when I get home will be putting Eve in the Cd Player I a have
not heard it in ages!!! It is a great song.

King's X with Galatic cowboys will be playing the Mason Jar on Sept 11th

    Hey all ...

Soon after this, there will be a couple of posts from
me. The first (if the mail comes out in order) is information
about the list, subscribing/unsubbing, etc. PLEASE READ IT.
Even if you think you know it all, just read through it once.
It will be posted weekly for the next few weeks since there
will be an influx of subscribers with the school year starting
again. My time is going to be even more limit for the next
few months, so reading this information can save both you and
I time. Also, if you have any suggestions, etc, feel free
to mail me. After that, at some point, I will be posting
a normal post, which will prolly be lengthy since I haven't
posted in a while. Should be interesting :)

Just wanted to get that out now.

    Hey All ....

Here is my new weekly posting about how to get the most
(or least if you don't like us) out of the ytsejam. This will
be coming out weekly (hopefully) at least for a while since we are
quickly gaining subscribers since school is now back in session.
I may post it less often after a while, but for now, it will be
    weekly.

To get on to the Dream Theater Mailing List:

    Send mail to ytsejam-request@ax.com
For the subject of the message put:

            asdf

In the body of the message put:

            subscribe ytsejam Your Name

replace Your Name with your real name (eg: Ryan Skadberg).
You should recieve a confirmation letter in the your
mailbox within 24 hours. If you do not, mail
ytsejam-owner@ax.com and I will help you out as soon
    as possible.

To change the mode you recieve the Dream Theater Mailing List in:
There are two ways you can recieve the ytsejam. The first is in
digest which is the default. This sends you a large message which
contains 15-20 emails each. The other is ack mode, which means
you recieve each piece of mail as it comes through. To do this:

    Send mail to ytsejam-request@ax.com
For the subject of the message put:

            asdf

In the body of the message put:

            set ytsejam mail ack

            OR

            set ytsejam mail digest

If you have any problems, please mail ytsejam-owner@ax.com.

To get off the Dream Theater Mailing List:

    Send mail to ytsejam-request@ax.com
For the subject of the message put:

            asdf

In the body of the message put:

            unsubscribe ytsejam

You should recieve a confirmation letter within 24 hours.
If you don't, once again, please mail ytsejam-owner@ax.com
and I will help you out as soon as I can.

To recieve files from the Dream Theater Mailing List:

There are many files kept by the mailing list server.
The biggest group are old issues of the jam. It is
archived since 1275. If you are looking for an issue
earlier than that, please mail ytsejam-owner@ax.com and
I will see what I can do. There are also other files
kept on the server. These include Mike Bahr CD Updates,
The "UnOfficial" Dream Theater SongBook and some others.
Any time I add something I usually send a post to the
jam so everyone knows about it. To get a list of the
    files available from the server:

    Send mail to ytsejam-request@ax.com
For the subject of the message put:

            asdf

In the body of the message put:

            index ytsejam

This will send you a list of all the files available from
the server. To retrieve one of these files:

    Send mail to ytsejam-request@ax.com
For the subject of the message put:

            asdf

In the body of the message put:

            get ytsejam filename

In place of filename, put the name of the file you
    want.

    Basic Rules:

There are some basic rules to the jam which make everyone's
reading alot more pleasant. Please try and follow them as
closely as possible. I will send out warnings to people
who blatantly disobey these. You get one warning, a second
offense will get your jam priviledges taken away.

    1. Do not post just for the sake of posting. There is already
a lot of valid traffic on this list, we don't need unnecessary
posts which are a waste of everyone's time. The basic rule
you should all try to follow is to think before you post.

    2. No Top Ten (Five, Twenty, Thirty, etc) lists. These lists
are a waste. They take up alot of bandwidth and fill up
everyone's mailbox much faster than they would like it filled
up. If you want to know everyone's top somethings, please ask
for ALL responses to be mailed directly to you. This has been
done with the end results posted to the jam and it was very very
    nice.

    3. Do not start / participate in / complain about long off-topic
discussions. These have gotten WAY out of hand in the past.
If one starts, I will post once saying to stop and take it to
private email, anyone continuing the discussion will
recieve a warning. These include such topics as God, NIN, Blind
    Melon, bands selling out, etc.

    4. Private E-Mail is a wonderful thing. Use it when you think it
may be more useful than posting to the jam.

    5. Last, but not least, this is YOUR ytsejam. I am around,
and I do administrative work, but I do not say what can/cannot
be talked about (most of the time) or moderate in any real way.
I am the Ytsejam Administrator more than Moderator. Don't complain
if the jam seems to be going downhill, DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT.

Basically, that is all the basic info. As always, if you have any
problems feel free to mail me. I get ALOT of mail on a daily basis,
so it sometimes takes me a while to get back to you, but 99% of the
time, I will get back to you eventually.

Thanks for Reading and Enjoy the List!!!

A). Berklee is a MUSIC school. They pride themselves on being a good
jazz/fusion school, but any schooling is what you make of it. I have
friends who go there, and they claim that they came there expecting to
meet some amazing prodigy musicians, but were suprised to see that people
were only as good or even not as good as they were. One of my bass
playing friends in particular is more capable than the Berklee bass
department. Most of the amazing talents you hear out there are not
amazing because they went to Joe's $22,000 a year music school. They are
amazing because they put the time in, the developed THEIR OWN SOUND, and
they took advantages of their resources. If you do those things then
you're on track. Heh... look at DT! Not one of those dudes has a degree
in music, to my knowledge. Some F'ing fine talented college drop outs.
(I'm not knocking you, DT! Just making a point!)

B). I think that we'd have a HUGE chance of getting DT on Letterman if we
1). wait till the new album is DEFINATELY scheduled for release, and 2).
Generate MUCH interest in DT being on letterman. That means posting in
Newsgroups, mailinglists, and telling everyone you can to write Letterman.
If we don't all say we're from the Jam, they'll have no way of knowing
that we aren't just some small active percentage of an avid listenership.
I have seen no name bands on Letterman before. DT is not a no name. This
can work. We can even send give people a standardized letter to mail to
lateshow, if it would improve our chances. We just don't want a mail bomb
or childish mail loop program doing this. We should have each person
    write only once.

Ah. I had no idea someone was playing around with the name Prognosis as a
Prog music thing before me, but it's perfectly logical to think someone
might have. Oh well. Thanks for the warning. When I posted to news I
made sure I said I would never be allowing ads on the list, nor would I be
selling anything or charging for anything. I do append that to say that
things like Mike Bahr's cd's will be advertised, since he's not a scam, or
making big money off the deal.

Thanks for the warning. Oh and to those of you who've subscribed thus
far, the list exists, but the issues won't pump out until bandwidth for
Progress #1 is taken up. Please be patient, and please do not hesitate
to post there, now or ever.

    Hi.

Regarding the Late Show deal, I think it's an interesting idea but I
really doubt it will do anything besides confusing the people that read
it. Let's wait until the new CD and then bombard them with the stuff.

In the meantime, let's try it now with another Prog band that is
supporting an album now. Galactic Cowboys, King's X, heck, with Rush
coming out with a new one, and actually being popular, we could try
them. I think it'd be interesting just to see what they would do. I do
agree that Conan O'Brian show would be a better outlet to try so we can
try them to. It's not to hard to imagine GC on LnwCoB. I can dream,
    can't I?

Why do so many people quote so much stuff in the jams? It really bugs me
when I see the same stuff quoted over and over and over again.Sorry to gripe.

Man, just to think about the autoreply in ACK mode is SCARY!!!!!!!!!

I guess I'll go back into hiding again.

If you want to visit a REALLY CRAPPY web page visit Satan Barf's home
page at www.geocities.com/SunsetStrip/Alley/2553. Make sure you
capitalize all the stuff. The page sucks but I want to figure out how to
add sound clips and crap so if anyone can help, mail me.

Oh yeah, one last thing. I saw Jason Becker on the MDA telethon today
and it was really sad. Eddie Van Halen appeared with him. They had
these ballet dancers perform one of his songs and it was pretty cool.

another 2!! So, I am going through my own little private hell. And there
is nowhere for me to listen to them. So how am I spending my free time?
    Well, I'm
-reading every cd's liner notes that I have an illegal number of
    times.
-Trying to perform every instrument (inc. and esp. voice) of my
most coveted cd's. (Mostly, DT, QR and Marillion)
-And listening to every fucking new song by metallica and
memorizing the radio station's playlist. (They are the same thing!)

            Sucks, eh?

Oh yes...I'm currently in the process of looking at Universities
to attend next year. So, if anyone wants to give me some input. As in
where all teh cool jammers go...go ahead....please!!! :)

    >Except that WDADU is ok and SG isn't worth it, because again, SG is no

You must be crazy for not thinking Shadow Gallery's first album isn't worth
it!!!... I think it's incredible for a FIRST album... The dynamic vocals on
it are worth it alone!... I think it has some beautiful songs on it,
especially considering how it was recorded in nothing short of a garage.....
Shadow Gallery is an up and coming force in progressive metal...
       Take Care....Dusty
