Okay, maybe it doesn't compare when the only shows are in London, but I
would think a lot of Americans would have liked to be in attendance for
the Ronnie Scott's gig. I think it was a side of DT no one had really
    been able to see before.

Personally, I am partial to the likes of "Fawlty Towers," "Mr. Bean,"
"Whose Line is It Anyway?", and "French and Saunders."

It looks like I now have a line on the best place in town for prog...
Keith has befriended someone at work with a huge passion for prog. Last
night, we visited with this guy, and he played stuff I'd maybe heard of,
but not heard, like Djam Karet and 801. That makes me a bit of a happy
camper...although my CD "wish list" has grown to gargantuan proportions!

    The Digital Man asked me:

    >> How the *hell* do you know how long Murphy's ass hair is??? :)

Well, the last time James and I were sitting around discussing dingleberries,
it came up. It's a well known fact that if you're gonna talk about dingleberries,
you're gonna talk about ass hair, and the length thereof. Technically, I really
don't know how long his ass hair is. When we got to the self-examination part of our
discussion, we just couldn't find a ruler. Don't you just hate it when you want to
measure your ass hair but have no instruments?
So, to answer your question, I simply do not know. Maybe it'll come up in
    next week's discussion. Until then.....

COOL!!!! The Max Weinberg Seven (good band - they always look like they're having a good time up there) is playing "Paranoid." Yes, the Sabbath tune (probably my fave Sabbath tune). Hey, maybe there's a metal fan somewhere on the show (maybe not prog, but it's a start :). I'm not taking sides on the tribute thing, but I do know the KISS tribute most certainly did not kill their career (I'm not saying it helped, either - I wasn't all that impressed with what I heard on it, though it was, well, interesting).

    Surprise! :)

They play 'em often enough here in Boston (I hear them on several New Hampshire stations that I can pick up down here). Also, he other night I heard a special on 102.9 where they had some interviews with Alex. Good stuff!

Absolutely! I saw the Bursting Out tour as well. Very tight.

    > ELP can put on quite a show.

I saw ELP in the mid 70's, exploding synthesizer and all. I heard that before the age of the synthesized keyboard, Keith used to stab his analog organ to get it to short out and produce wild sounds. So it's true: that damn rock music does cause kids to be violent!! :) Time to go stab me a few twinkies, hehe...

Bought EJ's latest and FJB's rereleased 1st one on Tuesday (becuz i'm gonna go see that band tomorrow and it would be nice to recognize the stuff....) and I listened to Venus Isle first.....first listen, not impressed, sounded like an attempt to tap the lite-rock market, throw in a little countryish twangs here and there to interest the folx down home in Austin....so basically, I spent most of Tuesday night listening to FJB. a band i've hyped here before: rock with country attitudes, really excellent stuff, however.....

last couple days, however, i gave VI a real good listen, as in turning off the TV, the fan (sitting in the heat to appreciate EJ, now that's sacrifice) and gotta say, this is a montrously cool album, lotsa little things going on that just set off shivers.....like a prev. revue, there are no "cliffs of dover" or even "righteous"-like songs on here, it seems as tho EJ totally ignored radio considerations while making this album (unless he wants to release the songs with vocals to the lite rock markets....) I still haven't matched names to songs yet....makes it tough that 5/6 songs on side 2 (i got the cassette, sue me...) are instrumentals.... that's a good thing, as you can lose yourself in the music without worrying aobut vocals, but bad in the way it hinders me from figuring where one song ends and the next begins....I have got a couple names figured out tho, they're my highlights so far..... "Battle we have won" and "Pavillion"....then there's the Camel one, which is my fave on that album.....on the flipside, i 'm not sure what to make of "Manhattan", it sprta sucks

in either case, y'all gotta go out and get this album.....and pick up on The Freddy Jones Band while you're at it..... partha

Hi all, From the land for Lurkdom I bring you a capsule review of Prog Nite at the Rock 'N Roll Cafe. Three bands on the bill were Arsnova, Mastermind, and Deus Ex Machina. I'm going to work my way backwards, as that's how worst to best ran.

Deus Ex Machina - Italian band, good buzz on them, looking forward to seeing them one day. Not this night though. They bagged out at the last minutes leaving many dissappointed people. Seems that two of their vans died, stranding their equipment on the road. They were pissed at their road manager (justified) and pretty much decided that they weren't going to play(not justified), even after Mastermind offered the use of their own equipment. It was a letdown...

Well, that's it for the bad. If the other two bands were just OK, I would not have been happy, but the truth was that after Arsnova and Mastermind, I really didn't miss Deus Ex Machina at all.

Mastermind - all the way from New Jersey, with their fourth disc coming out in a week or two have it together pretty damn well. I've heard a few tracks from their CD's and while impressed with the technicality, they sometimes loose the fine line combining technicality and warmth, and come off a bit sterile. They have overcome this live however. The human element in the live show makes the songs larger and more engulfing. Their show is a definite must see. They are regulars at the R 'N R Cafe's Prog Nite, as I've seen them in the crowd for two times running.

Arsnova - Japanese trio - bass, keys, drums, no vocals - never hearing of them before this night, these three unassuming women took the stage and with a minimalist's ideal of an introduction, proceeded to knock me back into LAST WEEK! Big, fat talent alert here. Having never heard them previous, I hadn't a clue as to what was improv, and what was pre-written. It didn't matter, the songs brought you in to them, the lack of vocals seemed to remove an obstacle to becoming lost in the music. Best of the night on this night. They stayed for the whole night mingling and talking with everyone and all in all were a class act.

Well, a good night of music, it was. An hour and a half of Mastermind, an hour+ of Arsnova. Today at work is going to be interesting(home at 2:45am - up for work at 6:00am).

It's gotten to be a monster post(my first ever) to the jam hope you enjoyed it...

    Hey everyone,

I should've written this long ago, but a friend of mine downloaded a couple songs off RUSH's new release. The first one I heard was quite similar to Counterparts, with a pretty heavy edge to it. BUT FOLKS, the 2nd songs I listened to (cannot remember names ATT) was AWESOME!! The first thing I thought of when I heard it was: "This is classic RUSH from the older days, with of course, an easier voice from Geddy". Anyhow, they very much impressed me with a song primarily in odd time, similar to Double Agent, with 3/4 times, but they also had extensive 10/8 time, as well as some other intricate time changes. Finally, a deep breath of fresh air!! I think the new release is worth getting just for this song.

    Later, Jon

Hmmm...I've yet to hear James' solo album. Is it new or an old one (circa 88/89 like Freidman's first)? He is a great guitarist, though. IMO, he's better than Alex Skolnick (another ex-Testament axeman)...IMO...IMO.

Hmmm...ringing in at approx 73:30 minutes is quite a bit. However, they still have final cuts on what'll make it...and there could be about 80 minutes put onto a CD (of course this takes out some oversampling quality, I think). Mike and JP have both said that Met Pt2 *will* be there, so don't count it out yet...

Don't pout. :) *This* 'no double CD thing' is not bad for the fans. It only means that they will have 1 hour 15 minutes left over for another album to come out, hopefully sooner than 2 years from the release of this one. Plus, there'll be the b-sides to singles, etc. I'm sure we'll hear all of those songs sometime.

There is a long one coming soon, just haven't had time to sit down and write it yet.

This one is about posting rules. I have said MANY times that I really would like everyone to follow just ONE rule when posting. Think BEFORE you post. Its not that hard. Just don't post garbage, or stuff you think will start a fight or anything like that. It will make everyone happy. This comes up from time to time in my head, because I read a jam and get no info from it or just see alot of garbage that doesn't need to be there.

So, let me help you think. When you are posting a response, please ONLY include the parts that are pertinent to your response. I see people sending responses to messages which have a 50 line message and then 50 more lines of their own. We only need to see the important parts, most of us probably read the post the first time. Also, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do not just post one word or one line responses, especially when you are quoting alot from another message. Just include the necessary parts and have a real response, not just "Yeah!" or something like that. When the jam has so much junk on it, like quoted stuff from responses we end up with extra jams and alot of junk that needs to be skimmed through. Also, don't post about completely, utterly and totally random garbage.
