Yes, there is DT content for a change! I got a new comp. CD today that
has To Live Forever and Eve on it. It's a limited edition comp. put out
by Hard Rock magazine of France. It's got stuff by DT, FW, Vanden Plas,
Shadow Gallery, Landmarq, Eldritch, Magellan, Aragon, and Tiles (more on them
later). It all sounds rather good. I'm told that you can get a copy of it
direct from Hard Rock, but I got mine from the band Tiles. They're a local
(Detroit) prog band who has had rather good success in France, Italy, and
Japan with their debut CD. Really good stuff. I toss off a review later
for anyone who's interested. There is mention of a Detroit prog fest
sometime in late September. Anyone heard of the Motor City ProgShow? I'll
post with info as I get it. If the other bands are as good as Tiles, it
might be worth the road trip!

Hey everyone, I just finished my Magna Carta collection with the purchase of Tempest, and Altura. I have been very happy with the quality of music that this label has released, especially with Enchant (My personal fav. If you don't have this, GET IT NOW). BUT, I am a little disappointed with Tempest. I really don't recommend this CD, It reminds me of Irish Drinking Songs. If thats what you like e-mail me and we'll work out a trade or somethng. Altura on the other hand is really good, not quite DT but still good. It's nice to see a label doin' the right thing.

Also, there has been alot of talk about Cairo. I really dig this CD, kinda like Yes. And of course, Shadow Gallery.

When people started to talk about them I ran out and bought it. I was very upset because a few people compared them to DT. They are a bit different, and I let this one sit on the shelf for a long time. I can say now that it is a very good disc, It grew on me.

    Well, enough outta me.

Hi all!! Just the friendly reminder, and possibly the first time notice to new subscribers, about what Limited Edition DT discs are available and where to get them.

The FULL informative update is at: http://www.columbia.edu/~jc309/archives/ginfo/mikebahr.html Dated 9/1/96.

    Here's what's available!!

Dream Theater "Precious Things" - open to pre-ordering, to be released in late November. This one is a must-have, the sound quality is beyond belief!!! Dream Theater "Scenes From A Memory" - still 150 copies remaining. Get it before it's gone, like its older brothers are!! Dream Theater "When Dream And Today Unite" - The disc every Dream Theater fan wants after getting WDADU... the same songs, except with Da Man, James LaBrie, doin' the singin'. About 250 left.

Unfortunately the following DT titles are totally sold out, and there's not a thing I can do about it, so try to get them secondhand if you can. DT "Subconscious" (April 1995) DT "Acoustic Dreams" (September 1995) DT "Antiquities" (March 1996) Rush "Cygnus" (August 1995)

Also, the following titles from other bands are available.

Rush "Critical Mass" - 2-CD set. This one is just AWESOME. Less than 100 unreserved copies remain... get yours NOW! Tori Amos "Inside The Storm" - this one's almost ready to ship, pre-orders are still being taken. A wonderful, beautiful performance. Metallica "The Wrath of God" - Pre orders just opened on this, to be released late October. New material!!

Take it easy everyone!! - Mike Bahr - durnik@goodnet.com - NOTE THE EMAIL CHANGE

    Hey FJ's,

I'm just sitting here listening to Test for Echo on WDVE Pittsburgh...a = satelite feed from the album network...westwood one something or other.

Just wanted to say it's pretty damn awesome to this point. I just might = go against my principles and buy the sucker.

I thought i might boycott the album due to Rush's particularly juvenile = stance on the Magna Carta tribute (which kicks ass, btw), but what i'm = hearing now is starting to change my mind. Maybe i'll just wait a few = weeks...

Plus i'm really looking forward to the Lemur Voice album...their's was = one of the best performances on Working Man, and if all the hype is = half-accurate, then this'll be one cool album. I'm PSYCHED...

Now if only DT would hurry up and put some new tunes in my head, i'd be = one happy camper!!

    Later all, Tim

Hey, I knwo a lot of you are probably listening to this right now, but Rush is on the radio doing the interview/playing the entire album thing (K-SHE 95 in St. Louis). Pretty cool. I also heard a rarity not long before this, "Bark at the Moon" (followed by "Iron Man"). Pretty cool. BTW, no matter what my stance is on the tribute/Rush thing, I'll probably wait to get the CD for financial reasons (can't really spare the cash). Cheers.

Check out the Steve Vai site: http://www.vai.com

He's got two new songs out there (in their entirety) from his new album Fire Garden. The album comes out Sept 17. As you know, he's going on a six week tour in October with Eric Johnson and Joe Satriani.

Vai also is playing with an orchestra on Sept 28th - and it'll be broadcast over the net.

Check out the song 'Fire Garden' on the site. It's about 10 minutes long - there's some parts in there that remind me of DT! Check out the section about 5:45 into the song!

Speaking of sons written for "lite-rock" stations, I *have* heard a single on the local "adult-contemporary" station (co-workers listen to it, but actually it's not that bad). On the local AOR station, I haven't even heard any news of the album *at all*. Looks like I'll pick this one up on the 10th along with TFE and Lemur Voice (coming out on the 10th, if I remember correctly).

And about Skadz now being legal... does this mean he's of the legal age of consent (18), the legal drinking age (21), or that he finally got his green card?

I stayed up late listening to Rush on the radio. I think that they're new material sounds like Rush...I am a bit out of touch, but it doesn't sound like any other band or style. You can hear the bass...and you think...that's Geddy...couldn't be anyone else. It's very distinctive music. This one was worth the wait...

    Hi!

I haven't posted for a while because I simply hadn't the time to read all the jams that came in. I don't know if it's getting better in the next few weeks, so if you want to know something from me, don't post to the jam, post to me directly at basmer@med-rz.uni-sb.de or superior@dreamt.org Thank you...

    >What I'd like to know is: When is Superior coming to the U.S. (in particular, >southern Cali, but I'm not too picky) to tour? Bernd: you guys have a place >to stay in Santa Barbara!

Thank you very much! :) There have been so many offers, where we could stay during a tour, that we won't have to get a room in hotels... :)

Well, as the situation is RIGHT NOW, unfortunatelly we won't come to tour in the USA for THIS album. The album will be released in the next few months all around our planet so I really don't know at the moment, where we are going to tour, and where not. I guess it just depends on the album sales... but there have to be sold MANY albums before a tour is set up, I think. So let's see. The responses we and the the record company got so far weren't too bad so maybe there will be some more albums sold then we first thought. Depends on the people who buy them... :)

    Bye.
