Shit, wish I could do something to *make* them record a 2CD. But then
again. Maybe a 2CD for DT isn't a good idea if you think of people
that when they see their 2CD they wouldn't buy a 2CD from a band they've
never heard of. Still, I'd love a 2CD. I'd get it without hesitating the
moment it gets here in PR :)

I was thinking of going to the states for a vacation, and when I heard about the con, it seemed like a good idea to include that in my travels... Soooo, my point is, is anyone out on the jam going to be partying/ hanging out in New York after the con, and if so, would they consider letting a limey lond jammer tag along?

    until the next jam...

    Hi All,

This happened about 3-4 weeks ago when I was still in Hamburg, Germany. I was watching tv with my girlfriend at about 10pm. Not sure what the show was, but I am sure it was horrible (as most German tv is *grin*). We had the lights off and my girlfriend was almost asleep.

So there was a preview for the Thomas Gottschalk show (kind of a talk/variety show in Germany). And the background music sounded very familier. When it struck me I jumped up in the air in the process scaring the shit out of my girlfriend. She asked what the hell is wrong and I told her that the music on the commercial was "Afterlife" by Dream Theater! Of course she didn't care but I know you guys would *big grin*.

Anyone flying through Detroit to NYC when they go to the Ytsecon III? I will be on NW flight 893 from Detroit to LaGuardia on Friday October 11th. I will be wearing my Ytsejam shirt of course. Watch out for me *grin*.

    KISS? Ugh....

It's interesting that so many folks are so down on Alanis Morrissette, from the perspective of her having ability/intelligence/integrity (yeah, it's seems like I've taken it upon myself to defend her on here and TNMS). I guess we could go around and around on her, musically, and I'm not really in the mood for that. What I wanted to mention is that I've seen/read/heard a number of interviews with her and she's tremendously articulate -- maybe not quite in the way Greg Graffin or Neil Peart would be, but surprisingly bright. And what I've gleaned from those interviews is that she seems VERY involved with her music....that it means quite a bit to her. I suppose it could be an act, but I doubt it. Still, her voice in an acquired taste, to say the least, and the rhythm section on "Jagged Little Pill" certainly wanders dangerously close to the dance/canned sounds of her past, so I won't begrudge anyone their dislike of her. I, however, think she's a unique talent.

Degarmo and Key?! Man, I sure haven't heard about them in a while.....

It is going to happen ! I am going to be hosting a 1 hour Dream Theater special on the radio here in Monterrey , Mexico. On Sunday, September 8 at 11 P.M. the DT radio special will be on the air on D-99 (radio station). I hope it turns out well and get more people into the music of our favorite band. I'm open to all suggestions about what songs to put in 1 hour , please e-mail me privately. I had been waiting for about 3 months for the people of the radio station that I work in to let me do this , but I finally got the chance. The first 3 weeks of September is anniversary week so I was able to squeeze 1 hour for the special. I know that almost nobody (if in fact anybody) will be able to hear it but I'm trying to get more popularity for a band that deserves it , if anybody listens to the special please mail me and let me know what you think. I will aknowledge the Ytsejam Mailing List during the special as a tribute to all you guys. See ya!

Hm, About those songs, I guess they should play other songs and not ones like ACOS. 'Cause you have to draw people slowly or they won't accept the change from whatever crap they're listening to DT. "Oh that's too heavy", "Too long". And shit like that. I guess they should play PMU, Another Day or Surrounded, TTT, UAGM, Voices, YtseJam would be nice too. And a heavier song be it The Mirror or Lie just to show people how varied can DT be. Well my 2 cents. Awww, yes. You're worst nightmare has returned from summer break.

Damon Fibraio has returned. Yes, folks, that blind guy that you either love or hate to death is back to spew his rarely DT contented posts across the Internet. Any fans of mine, (yeah, sure) can get in touch, I am here until august. And anybody who wants to update me on what's going on with the next DT album or the ytsecon III or whatever number can get in touch. The blind guy needs a ride to the con. Any takers? And anyone in the Monmouth Ocean county area of New Jersey can tune into my progressive rock radio show on 88.9 WMCX on Saturdays from 3 to 6, after the football game. Much DT being played. In addition, I have the Rush cD before anybody else. HAHAHAHA. Hate me now? If no, give me time, you will.

From their post, I got the impression that it was really just Mike (and not the whole band) who's pushing the 2-CD deal. I don't know if your source is wrong...I'm just not sure which to believe right now:). According to that post also, when Mike was asked if Met. II was going to be on the next album, that also seemed to be kind of iffy (i.e. Mike couldn't say for sure that it WAS going to be on the next album). > > Maybe it's up to *us* to convince EastWest that a 2CD *would* be the > way to go !!! :-) If the guys themselves want the next album to be > a double, they must have enough quality stuff to use for it... > If they *do*, *I* wanna have it !!! Are you guys with me on this ? :-D We hashed this out on this list a few months back, when word first got out about the amount of material that DT had already written. Hell, as I remember, it was Petrucci himself who first dropped the idea for a double-CD at one of his clinics. Anyway, the upshot was that the list was basically split on whether or not DT should come out with a double-CD. For what it's worth, though, I'm with you.

I'm still not convinced that the band is for this. I know Mike would like it, but I'm not sure that we know what the band thinks as a whole. So, here's my idea:

I know that some members of the band are here reading our thoughts, and I know they probably don't want us all to have their e-mail addresses. So, guys, if you have thoughts about whether we should petition EastWest, pick a trustworthy jammer (perhaps Skadz, our fearless and heavily intoxicated leader) and tell him what you think, so that he can relay your thoughts to us. If you guys are into it, we'll get your back. :)

i agree the scene could use more of a prog edge but its a cult form of music and always will be... i think the awards actually were quite diverse... i mean- ll cool j, smashing pumpkins, metallica, kiss, fugees, and whoever else all thrown into one place, even if its all mainstream, is quite a thing. and the awards are based on popularity, not quality necessarily... of course popularity is based on labels pushing and promoting bands and whatnot.. but think about it... how would you feel if all those kids in nirvana shirts were wearing......
