    but what about a horrid conversion-gone-bad of a trend follower whom you
    tried to show the other sides of music by showing them your favorite band in
    the world, which they latched on to like any other trend?

    Hi. If there a guy or gal on the 'jam who goes to Quinnipiac College
    in Hamden, CT ...please email me at axe@nai.net

    I'm not sure that this person is on the 'jam or not, but the other day while
    walking to class from my car I noticed an Oldsmobile with a HUGE MAJESTY
    SYMBOL in their back window. It floored me completely....to not only find
    a fan of the band, but someone who must like them so much as to put a huge
    Majesty symbol sticker on their back window!!!

    If this person is on the list, please email me at axe@nai.net

    THANKS!!!

    DTC :)

    I was just sitting here reading through some posts with Mtv content,
    and it hit me. I've seen people post about petitioning Letterman and SNL
    to have DT on the show, but those are tough shows to get them on.

    Maybe someone has mentioned this in here before, but I haven't seen it yet:

    Let's pick a set day to all email Mtv with DEMANDS for Dream Theater airplay!
    It is much more accessable and much more likely to get results than emailing
    Letterman or SNL. Mtv has a Web site that encourages feedback! Well, let's
    give them some fucking feedback!

    I'm just as fed up as the rest of you about the lack of respect from
    music industry giants like Mtv for DT and Progressive in general. Let's
    let them know!!!!!!!!

    I'm gonna throw a random date at ya'll, and I'll be watching to see if
    anyone else is interested. how about Monday September 9th? Mass DT email
    piles into the Mtv server and either get's a response or brings the server
    to it's knees :) Hopefully this post will draw some positive
    responses....

    I'd hate to ruin you're great reputations as fans, so I'll suggest to you all that you don't ever meet me. You won't be able to say, "I've yet to meet a Dream Theater fan that I don't like." Think about this, also. If Dream Theater ever gets the recognition they deserve, there will probably be people who consider themselves fans that make me look good. Would you rather they stayed in relative obscurity?

    Ok let me explain something to anyone who might have gotten some what upset at the fact that a guy like Beck won an award but bands like Dream Theater, Fates Waring, and other prominate Prog rock acts have gotten over looked. First let me start of by saying whatever award Beck won he truely garnder it, as is true in the case of Alanis Morsette. For the first time in a long time the videos which won the awards this year, in my opinion, were good VIDEOS. That's what I think that show should be all about, good filmmaking and good videos. I have this feeling in the back of my mind that TSM was this amazing video and would have desevered an award such as the Breakthough video award, but since it did not get put in rotation it, rightly so, did not desevere to win anything. If these bands want to put out videos, and they get airplay, like at least once a day for a week or something... then grippe, but for now who cares. Do you really want Dream Theater to explode into Bush, or Nirvana stardom, do you want every wanker in you town walking around with a "Lines in the Sand" t-shirt on listening to the new album, and just talking about how cool the guys look rather than the music. I mean what is important the images..... or the music. Dream Theater gets sooooooo much regonistion in todays musical world, the magazines, the video, the clinics, the true critical acclaim has already been attained by this band.

    Item #3 - Conversions.

    There has been alot of talk on the JAM about how people have converted other friends, co-workers, etc... to Dream Theater. In the interest of getting some INTERESTING conversation going on the JAM, here are some questions I would like to see discussed.(keep in mind, I don't play an instrument, other than my CD player, so if these questions don't make sense, please accept my apologies)

    If you had a friend, Co-worker, etc... who was a drummer, which song from DT would you play for them to get them interested in Dream Theater? I mean what song would catch their interest from the first minute to the end, and get them to want to listen to additional material? What is it about this particular song that is unique, is it a particular polyrhythm, syncopation, time signature, etc. . .What could I mention to this person about the song to capture their interest, and get them to listen.

    What about for a Guitar Player?

    Or a Bass Player?

    Or a KeyBoard Player?

    Or a Singer? As an example, one of the guitar magazines asked JP what song he would play for his guitar peers, and he answered "EROTOMANIA" and then explained why he picked it (said it covered a wide variety of styles, etc...).

    For Example, the songs I have been using are;

    Drums - Under a Glass Moon - I don't know why but I like the Powerful Drumming Guitar - Under a Glass Moon - reminds me of Steve Vai's "Passion and Warfare" Album Bass - Metropolis - for the quick finger tapping part in the solo Keys - Learning to Live - Just Because Singing - Learning to Live - I just like the way JL sings in this one

    Again, I am don't play an instrument, and would like to hear EDUCATED commentary from people who do, or any insightful comments from anyone, whether they play or not.

    Anyway, that is it. I hope to meet many of you guys at the YTSECON. I will be there.

    Regards,

    Michael Pomerleau 72064.614@Compuserve.com

    It has been a while since I have posted, but here are some of my thoughts . . .

    Item #1 - DT Two Disk Album

    I am NOT hoping for a two disk set even if they have enough material for it. I would rather that they released an album, with the more mature songs on it. Then they could tour for about a year, and then go back into the studio and record the second album. This would be good in a number of ways, and here is my Top Ten Reasons List;

    TOP TEN REASONS NOT TO HAVE A DOUBLE ALBUM

    10. We would not have to wait 2 years between albums. 9. They could really fine-tune the other songs, and get all the little details perfected (which is the reason I LOVE images and words) before releasing the second one. 8. They would end up occasionally playing the stuff live, and that would make for some LEGENDARY concerts, and probably some good DT content on the JAM (as opposed to some of the lame NDTC on the JAM). 7. Would fulfill contract obligations for number of albums. 6. I could really play the S**t out of the 1st album, and just when I need a DOSE of NEW DT, I'll get it. 5. Would get them albums released regularly which is very important in trying to maintain radio exposure, and increasing the Fan Base. 4. Would sell more albums, since it is cheaper for a single disc, than a multi-Disk set, and double CD's generally don't sell well(I know there are exceptions, so don't flame me on this one). 3. By the time the second album is released, I could buy a larger Multi Disk Changer, so that I can still have all my Dream Theater Albums in it at once. 2. Potential Dream Theater Overdose.

    AND THE NUMBER ONE REASON IS . . . 1. TWO appearances on David Letterman.

    Item #2 - Birch Hill Tape Tree.

    I know Brian Cox, did not want to continue the tape tree due to a few complaints from a few ungrateful idiots. I don't know about you guys, but I LOVED those tapes, DESPITE the lack of Studio Quality to the recordings. This is a concert recording, and one should not expect perfect sound quality. The sound quality on that recording was PRETTY DAMN GOOD. Excellent Job Brian.

    Anyway, my point is, since Brian does not want to deal with these hassles anymore, maybe someone else could run the tape tree. I would volunteer, but it would have to be someone with a DAT recorder(which I don't have). Anyway, this would not be that much work, and would be a GREAT service to us all. I would love to get the remainder of those shows in my collection. Maybe, if someone were to volunteer to run the Tape Tree, we could get Brian to make a DAT copy of the remaining shows, and start the tree going again. That way he would not have to get involved (other than giving us the initial copies), and we would get some classic material to add to our collection.

    BY THE WAY, if you are an ungrateful idiot who is expecting 'Studio-Quality' material from you tape tree copies, please do not participate and ruin it for the rest of us.

    remember when i said Freddy Jones Band had country overtones? Hope that didn't scare anyone away, because that is one hell of a group.... just got back from seeing them....can't hear all that well, nor speak without hoarseness, but that's the price, I 'spose....

    lemme change that description, see if I can't get some of you folks to give FJB a chance: Think a more straight ahead rock style Dave Matthews Band, minus the violin, with southern rock (srv, perhaps) roots....they have, after all, just finished a tour opening for DMB.....anyone who saw them please feel free to back me up....

    and they got a cool sense of humor as well....middle of the encore, they're switching in and out of songs, they play slices of "i shot the sheriff", walk this way, stayin' alive and to top it all, the drummer got up and started rapping some NWA song the title of which i can't quite recall....they'd also done slices of "with or without you" and Baba O'reilly before.... (methinks i ain't hyped a band this high since echolyn) (but don't go looking for prog here, cause fjb isn't) (get their stuff anyway.....!) (partha)
