    Hey-
Just so someone's happy out there: I really like the Cairo Disc. Actually,
I'm going to put it on right now. Wait a sec....OK. I just started Between
the Lines. It's a great fun song. I LOVE the keys. I'm really excited for
their new release. SO there. Kudos to Cairo.

By the way all of you Magna Carta fiends (like me), what is new and upcoming
in the world of neo-prog? Altura's is an excellent release, so pick it up.

    Dear jammers,

Hi there! I just spoke with the La Guardia Marriot, sorry it took so long
for me to straighten out that entire thing! Anyways, they told me that
the deadline for reserving a room during the YtseCon III is October 4th,
so you have some time until you cannot reserve a room anymore.

Anyways, you will be seeing an update sometime in the very near future.
    I'll talk to you soon!

    Yours,
    Jeff =)

hey, none taken (by me anyway, as far as Monty's concerned, well, he
doesn't read the jam, so it doesn't really matter :). I have no idea
why nobody's said anything to me about the postings. I mean, maybe it's
because I avoided most of the overdone threads (i.e. Metallica,
VanHalen, MTV, the double CD, should we do a DT tribute, flame wars,
etc.) - I do have opinions on most of these topics, but others expressed
them better than I could, so I figured it'd be a waste to add to it
all. Heck, I don't even put stupid quotes at the end of my messages
anymore (mostly because I'm too lazy).
Man, I really do need to change that name on my e-mail so people don't
mistake me for my dad (his account, yeah, I'm a college grad still
leaching off my folks :). Basically, I try and follow Skadz's 'rules'
(for the most part ;). Oh well. Gotta go to work (cringe). Later all.

I was shocked last night. Our local Classic Rock station
in the Indianapolis area has a Sunday night program called
"Solid Rock Sunday Night." They take requests for "harder
and faster rock." As I was driving back from my wife's aunt
& uncle's I flipped stations and guess what I heard? DT. PMU.
(Well, it was the radio edit of it, but still) At first I
didn't beleive it. I have a CD player that plays through a
pre-set FM frequency, and I though I had hit the wrong pre-set
on the stereo and accidently hit the play button on the CD
player. Then I remembered that I had Shadow Gallery in the CD
player. It HAD to be real !! (Of course I cranked it) After
it was over (a few minutes too early), the DJ came on and said,
    "How about that? Dream Theater!"

My question: Is there an Indianapolis area jammer whom I can
thank for this? I mean, I have been trying off and on to get
through and request DT, but some one else beat me to it. Fess
up, who ever you are. :)

    Hey,

The new maiden cds coming out, its called "Best of the Beast" Basically, its a greatest hits package. Its gonna have 2 cd's, quite a few songs, live and studio versions. There will be 2 singles, one will have Prowler and Strange World (I think SW) from the Soundhouse tapes and the other cd will have the same songs from Lord of the Flies (without LOTF). Both singles and the new discs contain the NEW maiden song called "virus"

I haven't heard it yet so don't ask me about the new song :) I just wanna hear it :) (its sorta like constapation really) I think the due date in the UK was the 14th of October, the singles are supposed to be released around the middle of september but check around, they could be out now.

I know you can pre-order the disc, its going to be like 30$ or something, expensive but there's supposed to be some cool stuff with it. The 4 record vinyl one is supposed to have a shitload of cool stuff with it as well. Gee, I think thats all there is, if anyone wants the track list, assuming I can find it, ask me for it. I know it seems really cheesy that mean are doing this but this is for the "non fans", well, "recent fans" to get familiar with the bands past, why am I starting to feel like Keith Wilfort? :)

    'lo!

many people have mentioned the possibility of dream theater releasing a double album. methinks the idea (as it is) is not among the best ones i've heard.

a good point by kain: many people doesn't give a monkey's ass about a double cd from a band they've never known of. they pick a noname SINGLE cd just for checking it out. people only buy double cd's when they're definitely positive that they're gettin' their money's worth.

maybe we should think back to 1991, when our beloved (nah!) guns n' roses released their "use your illusions" that which wouldn't have sold shit, had the band been unknown. dream theater is far from being unknown, but just as far from being as famous as guns n' roses (i, for one, don't want it to happen either).

so i think a single one with 75 minutes of music should be enough to give us somethin' to chew on for next 2 years. this is not the kind of music you can get easily tired of.

in light of all of the discussion of James's voice I am going to add my 2 cents. I don't feel like qouting it but I believe someone said that on IaW his pronunciation of many of the words in the vocals was too good and that he didn't sound human. If you look at the voice as an instrument like many people do it would seem that he fits right in. The man is no slouch and has can floor someone with his voice. In my opinion if DT is considered a musical band then it makes sense to have someone as good as James instead of someone like say Axl Rose. I am not a singer and usually don't listen real hard to the vocal lines but his voice is very captivating. It is something that alot of bands can't compare to. Yes he does sound more natural on Awake, but so do the rest of the band. I admire him for his range and tonal abilities.

    cheers stan

Hello ytsejam, There have been several posts lately I'm going to respond to.

Cairo... Personally, I rather like these guys. But I like to make the decision of what I like and don't like from actually hearing them. I don't mind other's opinions regardless if it agrees or disagrees with mine. But what I can't handle is someone else believing they can decide for me what I like or dislike. Especially when they don't familiarize themselves with 'the enemy'. I'm not necessarily defending Cairo-I'm defending free will. Where the hell does anybody get off telling others what to like, dislike, buy, sell, etc. and actually believe others will follow? Pretty big ego trip. Point is, I think all of us here can decide for ourselves, thank you, what we like or don't like.

Welcome Back Damon. I missed your searing wit and charm. And I, for one, have never bashed a keyboard, although there are some that do this and call it 'playing' :>

DT putting out a 2CD: This has been hashed but I'm in favor of it. But then, right now, I'll take a single. I'm starting to go through DT withdrawal right now-I need NEW DT.

And as far as DT being on eMpTV: FUCK MTV. Who cares about eMpTV, anyway. I would rather see them on PBS in a full concert appreciated by those who would appreciate them. I've caught lots of great acts there on Friday nights. The exposure would be to a more mature audience capable of making intelligent decisions themselves instead of being told what decision to make (see first paragraph).

Congrats Mike and Melissa: You're waiting untl 1998? Ah what the hell do I know, I waited 9 years to ask my wife, 1 and a half isn't that long. I'll tell you this, it goes by quicker when you're married than while you're waiting to get married.

You mean you wrote all that during the one 60-second commercial break "Singled Out" _isn't_ on? Damn, now I'm even more impressed.
