    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Well, the time to order your Ytsejam T-shirts is now. The order was
placed over Labor Day weekend, printing will be begin shortly, and the
shirts will make their first appearance at YtseCon III on October 12th.

    =======
    Details
    =======

The Ytsejam shirts are two sided prints. The front of the shirt features
a *full color* raytraced graphic from Chris Haley in Washington. The
graphic is a beautifully done scene with the Majesty logo floating behind
a group of marble columns on a tile floor with a wide view of space
    visible behind.

The back of the shirt will be done in a solid blue color. The majority
of the design is a huge Majesty logo, framed by the Dream Theater title
at the top, the mailing list address on the sides and "Ytsejam" at the
bottom. Below that is "Internet Mailing List" between two more Majesty
    logos.

At this point the order stands at 150 shirts, but I'm considering
increasing to 200, and possibly a later second run if demand is high
    enough.

You can check out all of the details, as well as a preview of the shirts
    at:
    http://www.phlab.missouri.edu/~c675311/ytsejam/

    =======
    Pricing
    =======

The cost of the shirts is $16 each. The shirt is damn close to concert
quality, so $16 is a steal (last Dream Theater concert I was at charged
$23 for a shirt!). If you require a size larger than XL, please let me
know ASAP so I can get those orders in. There is an additional $1 charge
for each size increase (ie. XXL = $17). If you are picking the shirt up
from me directly or will be at YtseCon III, the $16 price stands. If you
won't be at the Con and can't get the shirt in person, you can order one
through the mail for $20 to cover shipping.

    The rundown:
    Pickup or Con: $16
    Mail Order: $20
    XXL +$1
    XXXL +$2

    ========
    Ordering
    ========

The shirts are open to pre-ordering now. You can reserve one by check or
money order to ensure that you will get one. I definitely recommend
this. By ordering early, you can make sure you get a shirt, as well as
ensure that the whole project goes of without a hitch. Checks and money
orders will be held until the weekend before the Con (Oct. 4th) at which
point they will be cashed to cover the rest of the payment when I pick up
the shirts. Those of you at the Con will receive your shirts then. Mail
orders will begin shipping the week after the Con, most likely on that
Wednesday (Oct. 16th). I am still working on definite pricing for
'jammers outside the US, so if you happen to be in that category, email
me and we'll work something out.

To order, send a check or money order for the proper amount (see pricing
    above) to:

    Pat Griffin
    573A Hudson Hall
    1202 E. Rollins St.
    Columbia, MO 65201

Make them payable to Pat Griffin, and remember this in US dollars.

    Be sure to include:
            Your name.
            Email address.
            Mailing address.
            Phone number.
Quantity of shirts you want to order.
            The size of each.
Whether or not you will be at YtseCon III.

I will keep you up to date on the status of the shirts through email.

Remember that all the info can be found online at:

I will add a list of pre-orders as soon as I can.

    Hello all,
I'm a Dream Theater fan who has been in isolation for the past
3 years, thinking that I was one of the few people in the world who like DT.
When I got aol though, I discovered a "progressive metal" message board, and
found others who liked DT, and they told me about ytsejam.....so here I am.
Anyway, the point is, I've heard several people talk about Fates Warning, so
I went out and bought the album "Chasing Time". Well, I hate to say, but I
think it sucks. I could be wrong, maybe it will grow on me or something. But
is all there stuff like that? Did I just happen to buy their worst album? I
don't mean to offend anyone, I'm just wondering if my first impression is
faulty.... Also, about the Dream Theater on MTV deal, I think that a little
publicity wouldn't hurt them. So what if all the Green Day and Nirvana punks
switch to Dream Theater? That just means more money for DT!! They won't
change! I say the more fans, the better..... Thanks for putting up with my
    first post...

I'm on the prowl for some new CDs since it looks like there isn't a lot
coming out for a while. If anyone out there has CDs by any of the
following bands, knows where I can get the CDs, has any info on the band,
is a member of the band, knows of a WWW page where I can get sound
samples, etc, please email me and give me a hand with this. Anyway, on
    with the list:

    Garden Wall Anekdoten (sp?) Anglagard
    Arsnova Ivanhoe Mad Puppet
    Timescape Iced Earth Clockwork
    Mastermind Altura Lemur Voice
    Tempest Vanden Plas Cairo
    Spock's Beard Iluvtar

    Thanks.

Yup. It's a live recording made in San Francisco in 1981. Needless to
say, it kicks serious butt. It's probably rather hard to find these
days, I got mine used. Just in case you can order it, it's a Philips
release, catalog # 800 047-2. It also says on the disc that it was
marketed by Phonogram, whatever that means. Good luck!

Well, even if a guitar solo is programmed..somebody still had to have
    programmed it.

I admire him for his range and tonal abilities.
    >

I think I figured it out. James shows off in the wrong ways (and showing off
ain't a bad thing). Take Mariah Carey for instance....she's got a fucking
huge range....but when she sings, she adds tons of embellishments and
schtuff. James doesn't really so much. Moreso live, but I like to hear that
kind of improvisational stuff on studio recordings too. Now, I don't mean
that James should sing like Mariah Carey....but if your instrument is going
to be out in the front of the band, and vocals almost always are, then make
    it a little wacky. :)

As long as they could become popular on THEIR terms (continued outstanding
musicianship, long songs, diverse styles, etc.), then we should all hope for
    multi-platinum success.
One very important thing to keep in mind is : without a certain level of
success and record sales, their record company may not keep them on their
roster. And with no label, we get no records!! Unfortunately, that's all that
    record companies care about.
ALSO - the more successful they become, the more artistic freedom they will
have from their label. (meaning stuff like ACOS, double albums, etc.) Without
impressive sales, they might feel pressured into "selling out".
So, I think if we love DT and want continued quality music, we should do
everything in our power to promote and push for major success. or else they
may dissappear into obscurity like too many other great bands.

    Hey Jammers,

Since I've been roaming around on the internet, I've found out that
my fav. band, DT, is considered to be progressive metal. Now, I've
listened to many forms of rock music throughout the years, including
Speed, Thrash, etc, but now there's one question that I'd like the an-
swer to: WHAT IS PROGRESSIVE MUSIC ???

I mean, can anyone give me a definition of what is considered to
be progressive music. I know that for example Rush, Marillion
Yes, and Kansas (for instance) are also considered to be
progressive, but in what terms are they?

I mean, is it because of the message in the lyrics, the form of
music they all play, or is it because they know how to tune their
    instruments?

This must be a very silly question, I'm aware of that, and please don't
flame me about it, but I just wanna know why my fav. band is called
    progressive.

Oh and Rick Terry, sorry about all that shit man, hope your wife
    feels better soon.

    'lo!

there was a request at a local radio station here (well, local on
the global scale, but it covers the whole country here) that people
would send emails as to say what they wanna hear on the radio. i send
one saying that "caught in a web" would do nicely. what do i hear

to love without fear and learn without question
how could I regret the meant occasions
I must begin this day again

The tape tree is going to happen, but not as you thought. Instead of just
one of the Holiday shows, there are going to be 2 of them!!! :) The
other show is going to be from the 12/27 New London show also. The 12/27 show
is only 105 minutes long though, but who cares, it's DT!! Here's the set
    list of the show:

    Under a Glass Moon
    The Mirror
    Lie
    Lifting Shadows off a Dream
    Mini-Medley
    Innocence Faded
    Mini-Medley
    Innocence Faded
    A Change of Seasons
    Surrounded
    Voices
    The Silent Man (electric)
    Pull Me Under

Thanks go out to Andy Keegan for the seed for this show.

I will make and official announcement for the tree within the next
day or so, so please don't start the me too's.

I am sure most people would be up for this including myself. I know you can't pester a guy (brain cox) but when you spend about 15 bucks to get a dub of a show you expect it to be done before 9 months have gone by. 9 months, that's a long time.... and it's my birthday today too. oh well.`
