Yello, jammers. It's sunday and I'm not watching football OR doing my
    homework!!

Question: Who out there in Ytse-land has Spock's Beard??
Who out there in Ytse-land has the new Echolyn??
Who out there in Ytse-land has the OLD Echolyn
    (suffocating...)??

E-mail me with your answer!! I'm interesting in getting a copy of
the above from someone, and if anyone is willing to either 1) copy the tunes
for me or 2) trade music for music I'm more that willing to!!!

Thanks. We love the U S Postal Service!!

While I applaud Rick's attempts to silence the painfully stupid, I must say
that his comments to that Mindcrime asshole will not do much to educate and
enlighten him. I know the type well. He will just respond back with another
ill-informed and immature opinion. Can I just amke a recommendation? Can we
stop forwarding MindCrime posts to Ytsejam, or anti-Rush posts to ytsejam and
anti-QR posts or anti-any band posts to this list? Especially when Rush, DT
and QR are probably the top three bands here. It just makes it too easy to
jump on tyour reply key and get out the heat gun. I am guilty of it myself. I
mean, I don't want to see this list degenerate into squabbling flaming wars
against a guy who isn't even here. Syrinx's post is a prime example. Mindcime
is not a subscriber, so his post agaginst promised land have only infuriated
a QR fan who likes PL. Guys, we are all on the same side. We all love DT, and
we hate anti-DT remarks. But really, is this getting us anywhere? I've seen
civil wars on the Jam before, and while they are funny to a point, I really
don't want to see them now. wait until finals when they will at least be
stress-laden and qite humorous. Hell, at least hold off until MidTerms. If
somebody wants to vomit his anti-DT opinions, let him. We all know the truth.

Hey all. I don't post often, but I am trying to get onto Itchy's list
of "people that post". Just kidding...

Some of you know that I have a friend named Debbie that listens
to country music. I hate it, but what can I do. Country music got
to her before I could save her. Oh well... She asked me to record
Load (don't start flaming) for her. Well, the tape was 100 minutes,
thus I had about 20 minutes left over.

To fill the void, she asked me to record "some of that music by that
band you like so much". So I did. I put "the Mirror", "Voices" and
"6:00" on it. She didn't care too much for the first half of Mirror, but
what do I care? I got her listening to it on her time now, not just when
    she is with me.

I don't think she caught on to the hint that those songs have a certain
symbolism. I take the time to listen to the music as well as the lyrics.
She just seems to hear "loud guitars and a crappy snare sound". Too
bad for her... If she listened to the lyrics, she might open her ears and
mind to what the songs REALLY mean.

Now all I have to do is get her to listen to the Subconscious version of
ACOS. If she can make it through that, then I know I will have done
something. Getting her to listen to the ACOS cd with the live tracks
on it will be a breeze. I keep talking about how Bruce Dickenson did
a song with DT, and she KNOWS that he is/was the singer for I-M.

Wish me luck, all. I may make a DT listener out of her yet.

Talk to you on the IRC, George.

Piece of advice, to George. Try playing her something like Another Day,
Surrounded, Wait for Sleep, lifting Shadows, Innocence Faded, Space Dye Vest,
or the covers off ACOS, and Eve if you have it and To Live forever if you
have that. Those tracks are less menacing musically and are softer, (god
forbid) and more melodic and may catch her better than the Mirror or Voices
or 6:00. For a country music fan, or any fan of something other than metal or
other prog rock music, you have to try to appeal to them throughdifferent
means. Throwing a metal song like the mirror at them won't work. Try the
lighter side of DT first and ease her into it. Hope this helps you better.

James is an awesome frontman. Now, when people complain about
him seeming arrogant or offstandish, you should realize that
is part of the image, the presence he portrays (god-like :^)>

He didn't seem all that huge when I met him though. I think
I coulda kicked his ass (*smile).
    ********
Cool. KSJO in SJ is playing "Virtuality" on the radio. I also
heard the Tribute version of "Red Barchetta" last week. KRXQ in
Sacramento is still the best station (anywhere) though.
    ********
You know, I won't go into the comments about the music, since
the points have been covered, but it really chaps my hide when
people cap on Geddy's voice. Hello? *knock* *knock* knock*, MacFly?
Geddy hasn't sung like that for *fifteen* years. I find his
"updated" vocal style very tasteful. Anyone who tries to use that
    argument is an idiot.

Love the album now, btw. Driven and Half the World are the two
"weakest" songs on there. The Color of Right ranks up there with
TSS and Bravado as a "Great Rushsong". Beautiful. And listening
    to Virtuality, I laugh. Of course Neil is poking fun at the 'net;
the lyrics make the 'net seem like the best thing since the discovery
of fire. I think this is lost on people since the music and the
melody are so good. Dog Years is the cleverest song since Anagram.
The guitar sounds like a growling dog and Geddy sounds... different
(if you know what I mean).
    ********
I must confess. I've been seeing people comment on the vid. since
it came out *and I've never bothered to get it*, *never*. I feel
a traitor, alone in the midst of coolness. No excuses, but it does
feel better that I've confessed |^)> Now, if we can only find the
    bastard that turned in you-know-who.

    Man,

What is this guy called "mincrimer" doing on the DT digest if he hates them so much? Such bitter comments toward a technically superior band! No offense towards Queensryche - I like them too, but am not willing to risk their older stuff, since Operation midcrime is such an inferior album to Empire. Promised Land is better also. I mainly don't like Operation Mindcrime because the vocals are so much worse than their newer releases.

Anyhow, if he cannot appreciate DT, then it's his own damn loss because DT is NOT just a technical show, it's also a melodic wonderland, putting together an elegant mix of instruments for their fans' listening pleasure. Hey - DT is actually one of the few bands out to first and foremost please themselves and their fans! Gee - what a breakthrough. Actually sticking to what you like to do, and then being rewarded by acquiring more fans, not by radio, but by word of mouth. I think that Mindcrime should re-evaluate how they assess bands, and tone down the jealousy just because DT can OUTPLAY Queensryche ANY DAY OF THE WEEK! (sorry for my arrogance - I'm not normally like this, but that letter was just plain obsurd!)

I hate to have my first Jam post be one a bitter note, but I'm feeling compelled to comment. All this who-can-outplay-whom crap is getting really tiresome. Technical ability is nice and all, but lucky for JP, he can write a good tune, otherwise all the shedding he's done all these years would only have him giving guitar lessons to zit-faced kids and making sandwiches to pay the rent. Ever wonder how many burning players Berklee spits out every semester who can't write a song to save their life? Too many.

Technical ability is a skill, songwriting ability is a talent.

    WOW!

I just had to write about the disc I bought this Friday (the 13th......). It was by an italian group called Deus Ex Machina and the disc was called ...eerrrrrr.... (should have brought it with me to school....) "de republica" (???????)... ANyway, amazing stuff!!!!!!!! Can't seem to be able to get it out of my cdplayer... The style is very much derived from King Crimson with influences from various other 70's sympho/prog bands..... If you're into that kind of shit ;) go get it!!!!! Picked up the Ivanhoe cd at the same time (Symbols of time), pretty good stuff, although maybe lacking something in their songwriting, pretty good stuff though....

Ok, me outta here........ Mika Numminen, aka Viking

    -So you think he's innocent?

-Did I say that?Nah, I mean only that he shoulda been found not guilty in a court of law. There's a big difference."
