Of course, I'm keeping wary; I refuse to be caught with my dork
hanging out in the wind after they've told me that it's over.

I requested to be sent the remnants of a destroyed glass master
and print run from the Tori disc. I wanted evidence that no copies could
ever possibly be distributed. After getting this request, the IAS
supposedly decided to tank the investigation, realizing that nothing
further would ever come of it. They told me to close up shop, never run a
CD again that I didn't record the source for myself (well duh), and see to
it that all preliminary masters for Storm were destroyed, and to document
it in case it ever comes up again. Looks like I've won, just by playing
the ignoramus fool. Many say I'm good at that. :)

With that in mind, I have a small announcement:

            I'M MOVING.

I'll put up the new address and relevant dates as soon as it's
totally confirmed. I'm only moving 7 miles from where I am now, and I'm
doing it because my apartment complex is trying to jack up the rent again.
    So I'll soon be at 275 W. Juniper #1174, Gilbert, AZ 85233 (I think). I
will probably move on the first of the month, and I'll have my parents
address in the updates and on the Jam this week to send overlap mail to
until you can reach me at home (should be almost immediately). Take care
    everyone!

go to http://www.vai.com and follow the instructions. real audio
sound files are available there, but you need the software to be able
to play them. there's a link to the real audio page there.

well, i've listened to the new Vai disc 3 times now, and i must say

    OH MY GAWD!!! AHH!!!!!

i *really* dig this album alot. it may soon knock Passion and
Warfare out of my "favorite Vai disc slot". excellent instrumentals,
great lyrics, incredible guitar work, and damn, this boy can sing! ;)
he's got a really good, strong voice. not only can this guy out play
all of the guitarists on the radio, he can out sing all of the
singers as well. :-) man. there's over 74 minutes of music on this
disc, which i know we all love it when *that* happens. :) he's got
Stu Hamm and Deen Castronovo on some songs, and Devin
Townsend makes a brief appearance as well. he's got other
musicians playing as well but i don't recognize them. anyway.....

my recommendation? this is an excellent Vai disc. if you like Vai,
you'll love it. buy it. :)

I personally like a lot of country music (I can feel the flames getting
warm already! ;) ) AND I also love DT. The two aren't mutually
exclusive. I think country music has a certain honesty to it that a lot
of other music is missing. I think some of that honesty comes from the
fact that a lot of country music is not written by the performer, but
rather some "starving musician" who has a lot of talent but has not made
it yet or who can write but not perform. They (country musicians) are
not afraid to record something someone else wrote. I can appreciate
that. I would rather have an artist record a good song someone else
wrote than a bad song they wrote.

Since this is a DT list and to get back on topic, I will say that
fortunately with DT, they write their own great music!

i own and play almost exclusively now a Warr TSG-12. it's a touchstyle
instrument a lot like a stick, but with a more guitarlike sound... the
Stick tends to have an acoustic guitar/harpsichord like sound, while
the warr sounds kinda like a Fender J/P-bass and a gibson es-335 jazz
guitar. this instrument is *amazing*! it has an awesome sound and
    feel, and it's incredibly inspiring.

the main difference is it has a body like a bass unlike the stick,
which is more like a plank with strings, and it has guitar and bass
pickups (active bartolini's) as opposed to the stick's special
    flat-response pickup.

if you wanna hear cool stick/warr music, check out Trey Gunn's "The
Third Star", "1000 Years", King Crimson's "Thrak" and "Discipline",
and Sylvian|Fripp's "The First Day". most of these contain Gunn,
except for the 80's crimson which has Tony Levin playing stick
    occasionally.

The Third Star is a good contrast between the two instruments. 9
tracks were recorded with the Warr and 1 was recorded with the stick.

Laundry's "Blacktongue" has some cool stick work, too, but not as
    complex.

my favorite DxM is the self titled one... it's not as accessible
because of the production, but i think it's got some of their coolest
music, especially Ad Montem. definitely an awesome band

try Nucleus, too. Vemod is cool, but Nucleus is a 100% killer... there
are some new influences (noticably Voivod) and they took the insane,
heavy, wild stuff to new highs, as well as the meloncholy mellotron
melodies (whew....!). Book of Hours is unbelievable, from the mellow
intro to the bridges which are like a ton of bricks assaulting your
cranium. quite an awesome band... buy their cds! for those in the
pittsburgh area, Paul's CDs in Bloomfield carries both of them, as
    well as the anglagard cds.

If I remember correctly, Michael co-wrote the following songs on
Empire: "The Thin Line," "Empire," "Resistance," "Hand on Heart" and "One
and Only." That's five out of eleven songs. Maybe I need to look up the
words "literally" and "nothing," since I don't understand how you could
use them to describe Michael's songwriting on Empire.
Regarding Promised Land, I've been thinking the same thing since
the album came out. He did collaborate on two songs. I read an
interview where he said something that made it seem like he wrote a lot
of songs for the album, so I guess his just didn't make the cut for the
album or didn't fit the theme. Hopefully he contributes more to the next
    one.

That's because it's not only an import, but it's out of print. I forgot that
last I checked, the DT singles weren't listed on the Apocalypse web page. I
saw them listed in a list-of-singles posted in alt.music.dream-theater by
    the fellow who runs Apocalypse.

Anyway, email him directly at apocalypse@marlin.innerx.net (Mike Prather)
and see if he has any more copies left. Last I knew, he also had copies of
    "The Silent Man", too.

    I hope this helps.

            I studied with a guy that's a stick virtuoso. His name's Greg
Howard, and he's one of the best stick players in the world, from what
I've heard. (Not that there's a lot of stick players.) He's in the

    Fellow Jammers,

Sorry this is kinda long, but I usually lurk, but had to come out
of hiding regarding a few items.

First, Mike Bahr, you wrote some really inspiring posts a while
back, and you definitely hit the nail on the head, we should make
the most of every opportunity. Second to Mike, belated congrats on
your engagement, may you have a wonderful life together. Third to
Mike, lay low for a while dude, hate to see you get in any trouble,
but we are cheering for ya!

Next big item, to the question about Yes ablums, I highly
reccommend Relayer. I know some people aren't quick to mention
this album, but it has some of Steve Howe's best guitar playing
IMHO. Gates of Delirium amazes me each time I hear it. Sound
Chaser may take some getting used to, but once you've heard it
awhile, it is a jammin' tune. And To Be Over is a great song, very
moving like Turn of the Century (which is on Going for the One.)
Also definitely check out Close to the Edge. ABWH is another
favorite of mine, there is the studio album and the live An Evening
of Yes Music Plus which has the ABWH stuff live, pluse many of the
older tunes on it. A great setlist for the concert.

Finally to end with some DTC I have been searching for the Lie
cassette with the B-side of To Live Forever. Now, I came across
(supposedly) the Lie CD single. I say supposedly becasue I asked
about this at Blockbuster Music, and when they searched the
computer, they came up with the Lie CD single as a special order.
They actually had two listings for it, one $10.99, one $11.99.
Does it also have To Live Forever on it? Anyone have this CD
single? Anyone know if two versions exist, or is Blockbuster
messed up? I'd much rather have it on CD....

    Thanks all and jam on!

    Joseph

Wrong. division by zero is undefined. You can't do it. try it on a

I just listened to QR's PL for the first time in a few months. Wow that
rocks. One More Time has to be one of the coolest songs ever. same with
someone else?. Except for DT of course. I agree that the whole dt vs qr
discussion is quite frivolous for a large # of reasons. The best reason
being that i love qr almost as much as dt and i think quite a few people
    feel the same way.

CD's that would be in the 5-disc changer if i had one:

Well, you're in luck. From what I've heard, there's a new operation for that. :)

    >2) I know DT released "Lie" on a CD single (not in the US of course ;)
    >and I really NEEEEEEEEEDDDD to get a copy...is there anyone who might
    >know where to buy or order one...can't find it ANYWHERE!!!!!

Search all Best Buys, and if you're really desperate, CDNow at www.cdnow.com.

    >Technical ability means nothing in the long run. It's about what you

    I dunno...I like a lot of technical ability. I like show-offs. :) If it
weren't for showing off, I wouldn't know what good drumming was. (not that
good drumming has to be showing off)

BTW, if anybody's bored, I've got a few .wav's of me drumming. Mail me and
ask for 'em. :) (In other words, I like to show off too)

    >Take care, everyone. I love you too.

You're not getting my Bud Light, Chris. :)

I think my brother's turning. He actually listens to the DT tape I left in
his car. He even sang along once. :)

    huhuhuhuhuhuh......he said "subject" huhuhuhuhuhuh :-)

    >definately up my alley :) i also remember people saying the same thing
    >about Tori's Under the Pink and its probably my favorite Amos disc. most
    >likely snag up 90125 next

Nonononononononono!!! you won't like it. :) Really. I don't...it's not very
proggy it all. Not at ALL heavy. You'd be in for the same rude awakening as
I was when I bought Hold Your Fire. Not what you think it is. :) Get
Fragile. Everyone likes it for a reason. :)

I downloaded the theme and it is actually pretty cool. It's definitely
worth checking out. Some of the wav files have some bad editing so I
changed some of the sounds around with my wave editor. But, other than
that, it's very well done. I especially like the animated burning heart
as the "waiting" cursor for the mouse. If you would like this theme,
please e-mail me and I will send you a copy.

    Well,

I cannot legitimately comment on older YES, being a bit more of a
younster (23), and not having heard much, besides "I've seen all good
people", and a few others from the early 70s.

Anyway, I would like to put a plug in for newer YES. I currently own
90125 (or whatever the hell the numbers are), Big Generator, Union, and Talk.

Out of these 4 albums, I rate them as follows: (best first)

    1) 90125
    2) talk
    3) union
    4) big generator

True, I haven't heard enough of BG to get used to it, but I think it's
quite disappointing compared to the others. I didn't really like Talk
much at first, but as you listen to it more, especially on a long drive
at night, when your imagination can run wild, it is quite a complete
release. It has the long 15 minute marathon, some good variety "radio"
tunes, it you want to call them that. Talk is high up on my list of
all-time favorite releases now! Of course, I LOVE 90125. That has many
great songs on there. Union has a great variety of flavors, given that
it's a collection (aka "union") of almost all previous or current
members. Big generator, I'll have to give it more of a chance, but at
this point, I'm not particularly happy with it.

Finally, if they have a new release soon, I'm buyin' cause Talk is a
    GREAT CD!!

    C-ya,
    Jon
