Yeah, really. I mean, I was watching Maiden's Live After Death the
other day, and man, I am glad those guys wear jeans now. :) Also,
remember Spinal Tap? Y'know, the "...armadillos in our trousers" stuff?
    Ooh, scary.

crossovers. Kinda interesting. Any other ones of potential interest?

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!! The mental pictures are sure going through my
head now. Hmm. Now that I think about it, Cranial Sphincters sounds
like a good name for a Gwar tribute band. Later all.

    >BTW, I am asking a question for someone else. I've noticed there are a >lot of jammers in the St. Louis area. Anyone know if Pearl Jam is >gonna hit that area on the tour?

First off, I've sort of niticed that, too. How many St. Louis jammers
are there and why haven't I met any of you (I have been on the list for
at least a yaer and a half (maybe longer))? Calling all St.L jammers.
E-mail me and let me know who you are (yeah, Rip, I already know about
    you :).
I seriously doubt that Pearl Jam will be hitting this area anytime
soon, as they would have to deal with a ticket agency other than the one
they are using (can't remember the name of it, but I just read an
article in Rolling Stone about it). And, yeah, I'm really sure it's for
a "friend." Come on, you're just afraid of admitting you like PJ here
on the jam. :) Just kidding there. I don't care if anybody here likes
    John Tesh.
Which sort of segues into another kind of thread. Some people
mentioned how "musical" taste of the listening public determines what
MTV plays/sells. Well, to quote Picasso, "Good taste is the enemy of
creativity." U2 used a paraphrase of it on the Zoo TV tour (Taste is
the enemy of art") as well. Even though I'm not into them much, I do
really like the quote on the Type-O album that goes something like
"Don't mistake lack of talent for genius." I don't know if any of this
made sense, but maybe it did. Later.
Oh yeah, I remember listening to Europe back in the 80s. But
seriously, I lived in England for four months a few years ago and loved
every minute of it. Granted, it may have its drawbacks, but life here
    isn't exactly perfect, either.

Partha, this is the reason why I do a progressive rock show, because of what
you said in your post. I think about how PMU was played on MTV and a bit on
radio and started a slew of DT fanship. I think of how Sperit of Radio and
Tom Sawyer cemented Rush's career. I think of what Owner of a Lonely Heart
did for Yes, and that wasn't the progressive rock band that existed in the
70s. You mentioned Operation Mindcrime and Silent Lucidity. I remember when I
first heard Rush, wondering why I never heard them on the radio all that
much. Or why I only heard the same five or six songs. This is why I do a prog
rock show. I hear bands like Fate's warning who never got radio exposure, and
ELP who only has Lucky Man and Carnival 9, that sickening radio edit played
on the air, and the occasional other song, and I say, you know if people
actually heard this, some may hate it and think it sucks, but some may
discover a whole other dimension to music, the way i did. So, I want to throw
the ball out to any people going into the radio industry, even if it's only a
high school station. If you can, get a show where you can play your own
format, go invest in prog rock and prog metal, not like you're not doing that
already, and play the shit out of it. Make the music nown and heard. Prog
has traditionally spread through word of mouth, so what if the word of mouth
runs off a transmitter. I just found out today that I am joined in m
progressive rock exposure plan by a female. Her name is Kelly, she may even
be on the list. I don't know her very well, but hopefully that will change.
Her favorites are DT and FW and Rush. sounds like my kind of woman. She got
her prog rock show today. We are spreading Long live prog.

    >I hate you Dale.

Don't hate me. I ended up not going to the show, so I put in my two
weeks notice at work. Well, I did put in my 2 weeks, but not because of
that. Two jobs were just too much (besides, I'm playing in a band again
:). Yeah, it is a bummer I ended up w/o th tix, but, well, it was just
    a chance thing anyway.
Mike, don't worry too much. I am glad you are taking the safe route,
though. I would hate to see you go. Also, It is a good thing that not
all of your CDs are in jeopardy (especially DT and GC :). Keep it up
man. To quote U2, "don't let the bastards grind you down."
And Rick, I know this one's a bit late coming, but my thoughts and
prayers are with you and your wife. Man, that really sucks. I wouldn't
wish that on my worst enemy. But maybe some good can come out of it.
For me, yeah, SDV does seem to fit well on a nice, overcast, all-around
gloomy day. Or, for that matter, when I'm alone, sitting in the house,
with no lights on/blinds closed, etc. Actually, when I'm in that mood,
SDV does work quite well, but I usually put in one or both of my Saviour
Machine CDs (for anyone who knows of them, you know what I mean. For
anyone who doesn't, shame on you :). I also really like a rendition of
"Another Rainy Night" a friend of mine did at a talent show when I went
to school in England. It was a really somber cover with just him
singing and playing the piano. Very cool (I have a bad recording of it
I made with a cheap tape recorder). With SDV, that was one song I
didn't take too immediately, but now, I totally love it. Definitely a
sign of a song/album with some staying power.

Yes you can, but I reserve the right to be chief
    psycho-anal-surgical consultant.
The treatment of "Butthead Syndrome", a condition often
associated with CS, can be very complex, requiring a myriad number of
corrective procedures, both surgical and psychological.
Naturally, these must also be consistent with the family
systems model to ensure a supportive environment when the teaching of
proper hair combing and toilet re-training ensues in the post surgical
    phase of treatment.
Standard behavioral conditioning is not effective in these
situations and may in fact result in a "whiplash" effect or recidivist
outcome. In extreme cases, acranio-sphinctoral calossum may be formed
in which the jaw and coccyx become fuse via a pathological outgrowth
of bone from the pelvis to the mandible. This results in the patient's
sphincter being positioned directly below his or her lower lip.
This is highly traumatic for the patient in many ways:

    1. It smells bad.

    2. It precludes one from dressing in anything other than clothing
made form size XXXXL sausage casings.

    3. Five star restaurant reservations become difficult, if not
    impossible to obtain.

These are but a few of the difficulties these patients endure.

Due to my substantial experience in this area, I feel I am the
only logical choice for representation of this section of the
    foundation.
I look forward to a bright future with our organization.

    Sincerely,

    Richard Terry
    Chief - Psycho-Sphinctoral Rehabilitation

Although I haven't yet been able to pick up the disc, I went

I've got to get a copy of this soon!
On which of the sites, that you are aware of, can I find the
    longest, highest fidelity samples?
I MUST hear MORE of this disc!!!

Bravo to you and your bandmates once again.

I, for one, think that Superior, Lemur Voice and DT should do
a 3 band tour of Europe and North America!!
It would be like dying, going to heaven, and returning with a
clear vision of the afterlife. :)

    Good morning,

I'm sorry for taking up a tiny bit of bandwidth once again
with NDTC, but I wanted to say thanks again for all of the well
    wishes.
Things are improving slowly, but we are moving forward rather
than backward. Sue's recovery should be complete by November and she
''ll be so bored by then, that we just might drive down into the
northern part of the US to meet some of you soft hearted loonies. :)
Thanks again for all of your support. It has truly touched us
    both.

            Now, on to Mr. Bahr.

Mike, I am very happy with the discs that you have produced,
but I would be most UNHAPPY to here that you were locked up with the
neighborhood sex offenders for violating the copyright act.
If you feel some heat around you, walk away from this thing
    for the time being.
Although, I'm not prepared to discuss it here, I was charged
and brought to trial on a white collar criminal matter in 1991, and it
scared the hell out of Sue and I. I was also convicted and would have
done a couple of months time if my lawyer hadn't had the expertise to
cut a deal with the crown attorney.
These guys treat copyright VERY seriously and won't hesitate
to fry someone just for the fun of it. They'll char your butt with the
same non-chalant attitude they would employ during a round of golf at
    the local country club.
You are getting married soon. Don't place any stress on your
relationship by risking incarceration. We all love you dearly for your
efforts, but think of yourself first in this situation.
We'll all sleep better knowing that you two are safe from the
    long arm of the law.

    Cheers,

    Rick

    | five cd's I've been listening to recently:
    | White Lion Mane Attraction (Atlantic)

Speaking of White Lion... Does anyone know if their first album "Fight To
Survive" is available on CD? It was released on Grand Slam Records. I broke
my LP and my cassette is wearing down now.

They were one of the first bands that I got to see frequently when they
weren't very popular and would play to just 50-100 people of L'amours in
Brooklyn, NY. Any help would be appreciated.

I, too, caught the Promised Land show. All I can say was "WOW!" I think
perhaps some of that awe has to do with the whole concept of a theatrical
show, whereas DT is a straight concert...(less talking, tastes great!) As
for vocal talent, I think Geoff wins out on range. Not necessarily that he
has _more_ range than James, but that he's stronger vocally at both ends of
the spectrum (ie from those super low notes in "The Thin Line" to those
higher held notes from songs like "Take Hold") And I'm a sucker for Geoff's
    vibrato..again...WOW. :)

little known band called ACUMEN, which kicks some serious industrial ass.
    Anyway...

            To D-Man: Spock's Beard is on Syn-Phonic. E-mail me, and i'll
give you the address to get it. You can order Lemur Voice from
cdnow.com, so if you have any probs, just ask me.

To Mike Bahr: Don't do anything that'll get you hurt. If you
are gettin' crap from the law, then just walk away. As much as we love
the bootlegs, it's not worth you gettin' fucked over for it. You mean too
much to us to be in prison. :)

Rush: I've listened to the CD a few times now, and the more i
listen to it, the more i like it. It's growing on me, but Counterparts
had the same effect. Don't know why.

So, Shawn Malone sent me a pre-release of an old Cynic tape, and
my god, does it kick ass. It's very hard, very fast, and just my style.
I think i'll be ordering the cd rather soon.

Ok, kids. Time to go. Remember, i'm doing the Kevin Moore demos,
so if ya have any questions, just e-mail me. Catch ya laidher...

    mike, aka syrinx.

    >> question: have you seen "dyer's eve" performed live? you haven't?
    >> well, it can't be, because the drums on the album were recorded
    >funny, whats dyers eve got to do with lars ulrich playing Damage Inc.
    >live. Last time I checked they were two seperate songs on two
    >seperate albums.

umm... last time i replied there was no talk about "dyer's eve" and
"damage, inc" being on the same album, not to mention they should be
the same song or whatever. ;-) i was just trying to say that you
shouldn't be very much impressed by lars' drumming as it appears on
the albums. maybe i didn't make myself entirely clear. i think in
estonian, write in english and am drunk in the meantime.

    hehe... "seperate" :-)

Thanx for the support, but I actually like putting them all together in one
big post. I only did it a while back because I didn't know how to "cut and
paste", and after I learned, it became like my trademark. Then i got sick of
all the space I was wasting so I changed my ways.

    >WDATU showed up today, and since we're along the lines of james's vocals
    >here i'd just like to say he's screamin and it kicks ass. :) mike- bravo
    >ol' chap, another fo0kin' great disc!
Yeah, but on AFiL, isn't that crack in "Euphoria" hillarious? (I'm not making
fun of James, I just think it sounds funny)

    >A little bit of DT content:
    > The Malibu Night Club on Long Island (Host to a few Dream Theater
    >shows) has been shut down!
Good! Now maybe DT will play some "all ages" clubs (Would Roseland be a
    possiblilty?)

    >i've read the whole thread and i'm wonderin' where's the point. dream
    >theater don't definitely have to take phonetics classes. i come from
    >a non-english background (english is my fourth language) and
    >sometimes have trouble understanding *any* lyrics without a lyric
    >sheet. and that's what the lyric sheets are for. you don't HAVE to
    >understand what's being sung if it sounds good. and those parts that
    >have been mentioned definitely do.
Jeez, lighten up a little! We're just having a little fun joking around. We
are on the list, so we obviously like the way Dream Theater sounds. I love
James' voice, even if it gets a little messed up occasionaly. I know if you
are singing loud in a high pitch, it's hard to seperate the syllables. I'm
listening to TTT right now, and I think it sounds awesome.

As far as the popular music thread, I know that people listen to music
passively. I know they don't know music as much as musicians or music
appreciators. My problem is with all of the posers that -THINK- they know
music but are really just top-40 alternative fans. For example, I've probably
brought this up before, but this little 8th grader piece of... well, I won't
get into it right now, but I was wearing a Rage Against The Machine shirt and
he was wearing a Green Day shirt, and he walks up to me and points to my
shirt and goes "They suck". Now that pisses me off. First, this isn't myfirst
musical confrontation with the kid. He has no idea what he is talking about.
He says all music sucks except alternative. He said he likes Dave Matthews,
but only because he is alternative (Which is another thing that pisses me
off, but I won't go into that now). Second, what does he know about Rage? He
probably has seen the Bulls On Parade video on eMpTyV, and has made a total
generalization of the band.Sorry if I get really far from DTC with this
subject, but it's something that I feel real strongly about. I'll shut up.
