    fire garden=#1 of '96, i haven't a time machine....typos are fun anyway
there's one song on side 2 (aching hunger, i think) which has a real
Prince flavor to it, sorta like some of KevMo's demo stuff....

DT: Does ANYBODY else look at the titles for the songs on the new album

go ahead and flame if you want, but those titles just make me

I think it is ok to talk about Helloween here. I feel Helloween is a prog
metal band and thusly is a DT related band.

I like the old version like on the Keepers. I love the song Keeper of the
Seven Keys. The new stuff is good and I rather listen to that then any of
the crap on the radio nowdays...

Yeah I guess it's ok too. Personally I like very much that song, Keeper
    of
the seven keys, and Mission Motherland from their last cd is also cool.
I don't know the song's names yet so I can't comment anything else

Yeah. I've got one! Menudo! Oh...sorry about that. TSOL counts, I suppose, too. Metallica's had three bass players and two lead guitarists, but McGovney and Mustaine disappeared before the first record, so that hardly counts. I was in a band a little bit like that. In fact, the joke was that everyone in the band had either quit or been kicked out of the band at one time or another... and that didn't even include all the people who WEREN'T in the band anymore. I suppose it's not that unusual.

I'm sure you'll get a lot of other feedback from other folks on this one, but I thought I'd throw my two cents in. Shadow Gallery's "Carved In Stone" isn't too tough to find....I can't locate the first record for the life of me (and I'm not sure I'd pay $30 for it [or whatever it's going for] even if I did)...and it's awfully good. Fates Warning's "Parallels" is an AWESOME album...far and away their best work in my opinion, but it's a little more commercial than, say "Night On Brocken" and "No Exit." If you're getting King's X, I'd start with "Gretchen Goes To Nebraska," "Out Of The Silent Planet," and the new one, "Ear Candy."

For what it's worth, if you're into those, there are some other bands you may wanna look into -- Galactic Cowboys (start with the eponymous first album), Clockhammer ("Klinefelter"), The Beyond (the "The" is very important...you want the album "Crawl," not the album "Reassemble," which is by a band simply called "Beyond"), Echolyn (maybe, they're more Rock than Metal, but pretty good), maybe even Naked Sun (they're a progressive jazz-metal band...a halfway point, I'd say, between Mr. Bungle and King's X).

And a question for the prog-heads on the list: Is there anyone in the US issuing Banco or PFM CD's here? I don't think so, but right now my collection of those two bands is some dupes a friend of mine in Mexico made long ago (on Type Ones...they're really dying). And I'd like to pick 'em up, without shelling out a ridiculous amount of money.

Stratovarius: I can't tell you much because I'm only just getting into them myself, but I've got their second album "II" (which I believe was later re-released as "Twilight Time") and the latest one, "Episode". "II" is OK, nothing outstanding but a good enough album. "Epsiode" is brilliant! I would describe them as a cross between Helloween, Conception and Malmsteen, but with the advantage that they don't have the 'cheesy' melodies which Helloween often border on the edge of.

If you can get hold of "Episode" get it! I don't think you'll be dissapointed with it. The singer is excellent, BTW. He's been compared with Michael Kiske, and although he doesn't sound *quite* the same he's *very* nearly as good.

I am curious if anyone on the list is in to a guitarist named Joe Stump? I attended a summer program at Berklee this year and was honered to have him as a teacher. I have seen ads in magazines about him and reviews for two of his albums in guitar world but didn't truly know who he was until I met him. His cd Supersonic Shred Machine is an awesome instrumental cd. It is kind of in the vein of Yngwie, but I prefer this to listeneing to Yngwie any day. If you like old Yngwie you would probally like this cd. It has some of the fastest shred guitar played with taste that I have heard in a long time. Corey Bell

oooooooh man Doc Butcher FUCKIN RULES. its like savatage's heavy side... jon channels the ballady stuff more towards savatage, and the rage towards doc b. its also great to hear jon sing, because his gravel throat rules. i heard a few cuts from doc butcher last tuesday, and i really fuckin' want the album now. theres not one nice happy song on the whole album, it was right after criss died so jon was pissed and ready to shred. as far as the tage lineup, it wasnt that bad until criss died... just johnny lee m. on bass and some other dude along the way, and i'm not sure about steve the doc on drums, but i dont think he's always been there... zach stevens took over for john on EOT (GREAT disc btw, i'm putting it on after i write this) and after.. but jon still does keys and even some guitar, not to mention writing it all. when i think of the current savatage i dont think of pitrelli or stevens or any one of those guys in the credits for DWD, they're just the actors portraying jon, the writer's, play ;) ~Rip

Got Shadow Gallery. WOW!!!!! The classical influences of this band are VERY AWESOME! The matching of the general "feel" of a song and the lyrics match better in this album than in any other I've heard in a long time. In the beginning of "Ghost Ship" you almost think it is a bunch of warriors going off to sea to fight some battle somewhere. It is just awesome. Otherwise, thanks to all those who emailed me with info on where to get the Lie single. I've sent in the check, and it is on its way! Oh, and BTW, SG sounds absolutely NOTHING like Queensryche. And Mike Baker is the singer for SG, too, to whomever was saying he butchered a tune of Working Man. I haven't got Working Man, yet, it is on my list.

After several, serious occurances of problems with my Internet Service Provider, Long Island Internet Headquarters, I have decided to switch ISP's. My frustration has reached it's boiling point due to Long Island Internet HQ misplacing my web page, misplacing my mail, failing to read my many email pleas for a reason (for these problems), etc.. My business relationship with them culminated in disaster, this morning, upon attempting to connect to thier bank of modems, and being disconnected immediately (or within 5 minutes) 29 out of 30 times. In my book, this is unacceptable. An ISP's responsibility is connectability. If they can't offer that, no amount of free web pages and email addresses are going to make up for it. I am truely sorry if I have inconvenienced any of you in any way, and you can all reach me this new address:

I have Lemur Voice, finally. This is beyond a doubt the best album I've bought this year. There are freaky guitar chops, and the bassist is clearly audible, and awe inspiring. The drums are great and the keyboardist can really really write. I am blown away. Marcel, this is a big time score. There's only one thing I don't like so far, and that's the intro to Intuition... the keyboard part is a little cliche... it really starts happening once the whammy bar guitar part comes in. I will repeat: This album is AWESOME. The singer sounds like a cross between John Arch and Sting (Seriously!)... and I find this totally listenable. It didn't stick in my head on the first listen, but after the second listen, I am totally stuck on their music... especially the chorus to Intuition and Alone (the whole tune). This band rocks. Definately give it a listen. They are not a DT rip off.

Altura: I like this band, BUT I think they've been corrupted by Magna Carta. Magna Carta tries to make bands sound like what they think will sell... in this case they're trying to be Images and Words era DT. It's a good album, but I can sort of sense that it's not what it could have been. Let's hope that they can get off MC asap. I hope Lemur Voice isn't corrupted ever by Mike Varney. They have much to offer the world musically.

Hey... I found someone who wants to sell a Chapman Stick used for $895. Should I buy it?

Cool...another Baltimore jammer. I was wondering if Planet Music is a chain or exists only in the Baltimore area. Anyone know?
