    > album...." anyone?? "Take Away my pain"??? "Just let me breathe"???

It would be cool if the new DT songs with the weakest titles became the
heaviest on the album. Damn it...Metropolis part II: "this will kick your
fucking ass" better be on the album. Or if they don't put it on the album,
they could have an EP with it. The rest of the songs could be alternative
bands trying to cover DT songs. That would be interesting. I just know
that Green Day could cover "take the time" with no problem. :)

Hello again for the 3rd time. Don't worry, I know my limit.

A fellow jammer a while told me that at the encore of a Pearl Jam show
(around a year ago), they covered "pull me under." Anyone know if this is
    true?

    > himself in front of a reather swift moving train. Was quite a good
    > drumer. I don't feel bad though because he was weak enough to use
    > drugs, and weak enough to commit suicide.

let me first start by saying that i don't intend for this to be a
flame in anyway, but my gut wrenched reading this and i felt the need
to respond. i think that's a terribly cold-hearted statement to
make. i won't comment on the drug portion of it due to my lack of
first hand experience, but i feel my 23 years of dealing with manic
depression gives me more then enough experience to discuss mental
    illness and suicide.

people that commit suicide obviously are people that have severe
emotional problems. alot of times these problems are medically
documented and diagnosed mental illnesses. this being the case,
"weak enough to commit suicide" is an ignorant statement to make.
someone who's mentally ill can be incapacitated in their ability to
think clearly and properly, and often times unable to reach out for
help. this is *no* different then someone who, say for example, has
asthma and is unable to breathe at times. the only difference
between the two instances is that one is an affliction of the mind,
and one is an affliction of the body. contrary to what (it seems
like) many people think, just as you can't will yourself to stop a
severe asthma attack, you can't simply "pull yourself out of the rut"
and stop feeling depressed, suicidal, whatever your problem may be.
mental illness. the key word here is illness. people don't ask to
be that way, they simply are. and unfortunately, in many cases,
those afflicted are left dealing with it for the rest of their lives.

from what i've read and understand from my own personal experience,
no one who commits suicide wants to die. they simply no longer want
to live. try putting yourself in the shoes of someone who feels so
little about themselves, their surroundings, their mind, etc. that
they would rather end their life then to keep on living it. i feel
the utmost pity for those people. they need help, they don't need
    critisisms.

if anyone wishes to learn more about mental illness, check out the
    following link:

    http://www.mindspring.com/~hugman/pendulum/

there's good information there as well as links to other pages.

i know this was totally off the subject of the normal discussions for
the list, but i wouldn't have posted it if i didn't feel it could
    possibly do some good.

Aww yeah, I love talking about Yes. :)

    Rip said:
    >thats rather screwey... who was the original lineup, and is there a key
    >member here? damn, i'm just all confused.. whoever is still around from
    >the beginning should get the band, and they should just tell everyone else
    >to piss off ;)

    > Steve Howe _OWNS_ the Yes logo. Chris Squire _OWNS_ the Yes

I know why Chris owns the Yes name, simply for the fact that he is the only
one to be on all Yes albums, but I don't understand why Steve Howe owns the
"classic" Yes logo, because he didn't create it, artist Roger Dean did.

Syrinx gave a taste of the lineups:
    >The _ORIGIONAL_ lineup is:
       <snip>

Ok, since I am a Yes nut, I'll give you all of the lineups, and a tad of
history. Please don't kill me for this. :)

Ok, now on to part 2...

During these years, not as much was recorded, but there was a lot of weird
    stuff going on with Yes.

Early 1980-late 1980 (This lineup had a drastic change, the Buggles joined Yes)
    Album Recorded: Drama
    --------------------
    Trevor Horn-Vocals, Alan White-Drums, Steve Howe-Guitar, Chris Squire-Bass,
    Geoff Downes-Keyboards

Trevor Horn, wary of singing live, left Yes. Steve Howe and Geoff Downes
wanting a change, left Yes and went on to form Asia. The only members that
were left were Chris Squire and Alan White. In many peoples minds, Yes had
broken up. Alan and Chris, not wanting to say whether or not Yes was over,
recorded a single as a duo, called "Run With The Fox." They also started
working with Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin, but it was dissolved by the
managers of Yes and Zeppelin. Wanting to get something going again, they
got Trevor Rabin (who at the time was going to sing lead and play guitar)
and called Tony Kaye in to form a new band which was going under the working
title of "Cinema." Jon Anderson wasn't doing anything, so he went to the
studio when the album was being recorded, and wanted to sing on all of these
new songs. He did, the rest liked his vocals on the tracks, and WHAM-O, Yes
    was reborn.

Early 1983-mid 1989 (This lineup got Yes their first #1 single, "Owner Of A
    Lonely Heart")
    Albums Recorded: 90125, Big Generator
    -------------------
    Jon Anderson-Vocals, Alan White-Drums, Trevor Rabin-Guitar, Chris
    Squire-Bass, Tony Kaye-Keyboards

    1989...
Jon, sick of Trevor Rabin's ALMOST complete takeover of Yes (during Big
Generator) left and formed a new group (Anderson, Bruford, Wakeman, Howe)
with former members of Yes. Yes had gone on a hiatus.
    1991...
ABWH is at work on their 2nd album, while Yes isn't really doing much of
anything, they decide to get back together, and create a 8 man superYes.

Early 1991-mid 1992 (The big Yes reunion, which didn't last for long)
    Album Recorded: Union
    -------------------
    Jon Anderson-Vocals, Alan White-Drums, Bill Bruford-Drums, Steve
    Howe-Guitar, Trevor Rabin-Guitar, Chris Squire-Bass, Rick Wakeman-Keyboards,
    Tony Kaye-Keyboards

All ABWH members left, except for Jon Anderson. They went on to record yet
another Rabin dominated record (he even went as far to replace most of Chris
Squire's bass with a synthesised bass).

    Mid 1992-late 1994 (Trevor Rabin's last stand ;))
    Album Recorded: Talk
    ------------------
    Jon Anderson-Vocals, Alan White-Drums, Trevor Rabin-Guitar, Chris
    Squire-Bass, Tony Kaye-Keyboards

Trevor got booted out for his total takeover (don't mess with Chris Squire!)
of Yes. Tony Kaye, developed arthritis and tired of playing. He is now
doing band management. Secretly, they reformed the lineup that recorded
Tales From Topographic Oceans, Going For The One, and Tormato. They played
3 shows in San Luis Obispo earlier this year for the new live album, which
will feature 2 new studio tracks!

Mid 1995-now!!! (What us Yes fans were waiting for!)
    Album Recorded: Keys To Ascension
    ------------------
    Jon Anderson-Vocals, Alan White-Drums, Steve Howe-Guitar, Chris Squire-Bass,
    Rick Wakeman-Keyboards

Keys To Ascension is slated to come out in October, look for it!

Well, I'd like to thank all of you who read this post for putting up with
me. Thank you, and goodnight. :)

from a source *other than the 'net*. And not from someone

We know that QR is the thinking mans, er, person's band.
With that in mind, lets see...

    8:25 - 7:57 = 28 seconds.

    2+8=10.

    and 1/0 is undefined, therefore:

This proves without a doubt that a member or members
of the band Queensryche are lurking on this list!

As for Geoff not saying "The" Promised land, remember,
this is the country where most people: write "no one" as
"noone", don't know when it's appropriate to use "too"
instead of "to", don't realize that an "'s" does *not*
denote plurality, that "whose" is the past tense of "who is",
say "if I was" instead of "if I were" for conditional tense,
    etc...

Of course, if Promised Land is a proper name (e.g. Great Britan),
    than I don't think there is a mistake :^)>

This guy completely shreds. I have three of his CDs (that might be all
    of them). They are:
       Guitar Dominance - Leviathan 199312
Night of the Living Shred - Leviathan 19943-2
Supersonic Shred Machine - Leviathan 199622

I bought these CDs at a Media Play store in Columbus, OH so they
shouldn't be too hard to find.

He mostly plays a strat through Marshall stacks. He is blindingly fast.
His influences are thanked on all his albums: Paganini, Hendrix, Malmsteen,
Blackmore, and Gary Moore. He plays faster than anyone I have EVER heard.
He uses no harmonizers yet gets amazing tones at amazing speeds. His music
is extremely tasteful and carefully composed. The CDs are strictly
instrumental. Petrucci hasn't attempted stuff like this since the Guitar
Player Spotlight pieces he did. These CDs are bold and ambitious, extremely
well-executed, and certainly not for the faint of heart. He also provides
some cutting commentary in the liner notes for SSM about the current
state of guitar playing in the popular music world.

If you like him, you might also want to check out David T. Chastain and
Michael Harris, also on Leviathan Records.

Jazzmin said this in Ytsejam digest 1853:

    >Pink Floyd as it is known today may not have any of the originals, or only
    >one, I forget if Nick/Rick is/are still with them or not. David Gilmore

Well, put this in the record books, Jazzmin is wrong. ;) Sorry, nothing
    against you. :)

    Pink Floyd originally was:
Syd Barrett, Nick Mason, Richard Wright, and Roger Waters.

David Gilmour was brought in as a second guitarist/singer, then Syd was
kicked out for his wacked out behavior. That was back in 1970, I believe.
Roger Waters did not leave in 1989. He left in December of 1985. If he had
left in 1989, he would've had some involvement in Momentary Lapse Of Reason,
which came out in 1987. Roger has been long gone. :)

    Enough of me.
    All-knowing, and all powerful Tempus...not!
Aww, everyone's got to be stuck-up sometime. :)

This message is for anyone who may need to reach me via email and world
    wide web:

After several, serious occurances of problems with my Internet Service
Provider, Long Island Internet Headquarters, I have decided to switch
ISP's. My frustration has reached it's boiling point due to Long Island
Internet HQ misplacing my web page, misplacing my mail, failing to read my
many email pleas for a reason (for these problems), etc.. My business
relationship with them culminated in disaster, this morning, upon
attempting to connect to their bank of modems, and being disconnected
immediately (or within 5 minutes) 29 out of 30 times. In my book, this is
unacceptable. An ISP's responsibility is connectability. If they can't
offer that, no amount of free web pages and email addresses are going to
make up for it. I am truely sorry if I have inconvenienced any of you in
any way, and you can all reach me this new address:

                    mojonet@vastnet.net

and when I complete my new web page, the URL will be:

                    http://www.vastnet.net/~mojonet

Thank you for being wonderful email friends and colegues...and I hope to
    see you on Vastnet.

    Yayayayay!

Just saw ELP/Jethro Tull last night. It was better than HORDE. :)
They played Pictures at an Exhibition (from Baba Yaga to the end) for me.
DUH DUH DUHDUHDUHDUH DUH DUH DUHDUHDUHDUH DUHDUHDUHDUHDUHDUHDUHDUHDUH! Then
they finished. Then they played Fanfare for the Common Man. Keith Emerson
dragged out his Hammond organ....then proceded to rock it, stab it and jump
on it. Then he laid down and had the organ on top of him...and then played
Tocotta en Fugue on an upside down keyboard. Then came Carl Palmer's
shirt-tearing-off-double-bass-gong solo. That was entertaining. They
finished with that, then Jethro Tull came on. They were great. Opened up
with that one song..."SITTING ON A PARK BENCH" dadadada daaaadaaaaa you
know. :) Played a bunch of cool schtuff, Ian Anderson cracking jokes all the
while. I can't get over his flute playing...it's awesome. I don't know if
he's double tonguing real fast, or something else, but he's got a trillish
one note rapid fire thing that blew me away. And, I got to see a bass flute.
:) Enough o dat....time to reply to stuff.

    >actually mr chase is alive and well and filming a movie in las vegas.
    >National Lampoons Las Vegas Vacation, to be released summer '97.
    >Supposedly this is the one that is going to revive his carreer.

Cool! Maybe you'll see me in the background. :)

    >Oh, good point. I used the wrong phrase there. I suppose I should have said
    >"we musicians", since the term "shed" is used mainly by musicians (or at
    >least the ones I've run into).
    >

So then you're implying that I'm not a musician?

    >311. Ha! One hit wonders of the 90's.

Don't start bashing 311 now, man. They grooooooove.

    >DT: Does ANYBODY else look at the titles for the songs on the new album
    >and think "these titles look like something you'd see on a Michael Bolton
    >album...." anyone?? "Take Away my pain"??? "Just let me breathe"???

I thought that Surrounded would be heavy, and that Under a Glass Moon would
be soft. Titles don't mean much. :)

    >4. ELP: Pictures At An Exibition

    YEAH! Baba Yaga baby. :)

    Uh oh.

    >Chris Squire must be very innovative, a gass guitar???, I guess when all
    >the lectricity stops flowin, ya gotta do something

He just has to be sure he doesn't lite up a ciggie while playing. That could
    have dangerous results. :)

    <pbbt> FOOOOOOOOOOM!!!!!! "WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHH!!!!!!!!"

    Lataz. :)
