    I play a jpm 100. I really like it but I had a U.S.A. Custom that was a lot
nicer of a guitar. I traded it in on the jpm and when I finally got it I
was sort of disappointed in it but as time went on I started to like it and
now I can't play anything else. Does anyone else have the first batch of jpm's?

Well, I got Fire Graden today. I haven't listened to it all yet, but
what I have heard has nokked my radz.

Of course, techno weenie that I am, as soon as I heard "Whookam" I had
to know what it sounds like forwards. Well, it's not what I expected,
although maybe I should have from Vai. Anyway, if you want to hear it,
I put it on my ftp site. ftp://132.198.250.43/pub/othrstuf/whookam.zip.
    Enjoy!

I'm glad Rush was trying to stop WM. Since they feel it's not time for a
tribute they obviously have more musical contributions to give to us. So
they probably have a few more albums to do before the inevitable breakup.

I think the most frustating fade out I have ever heard is the one
on Satch's "Surfing with the Alien". Try to raise the volume and hear:
some very cool riffs, that suddenly disappear... Fading out sucks.

Well, if you like the Streets stuff, I'd recommend strongly both Gutter
Ballet and Hall of the Mountain King, with GB being my favorite of the
    two.

Also, for any fans of the older Savatage stuff (with Jon singing), run to
your nearest import store and pick up 'Final Bell' or 'Ghost in the
Ruins'. It's the same album, just two different titles. It's got 13 live
Savatage tracks from the pre-Streets era. Sound quality is good, and the
    performances are incredible.

Anyone have the live album from Japan (1994 I think it was)? Is it as
good as Ghost in the Ruins? I assume it would be, especially since Zak
would be the one doing the singing and the newer material just kicks *SO*
    much ass.

no no no, jon oliva still IS savatage. i know i've said this a million
times but i just like going thru it... ok, jon oliva still writes all the
music, he still plays all the piano and keys, and he still even did some
vocals on the last album.. as far as i see it 'tage is his band.. i have no
idea why he's not listed in the primary credits but it always winds up as this-

    Savatage is:
    Vocals- Zak Stevens
Guitars- Alex Skolnik, Al Pitrelli, Chris Caffery, whoever!
    Bass- J L M
    Drums- Steve W.

    *additional keys Jon Oliva.

as far as i'm concerned it should say

    Savatage is:
    Jon Oliva

then list all the other members in small print. :)

I totally agree with you, man. I mean, they're gonna have to find a way to
end the songs when playing them live, so why not end them on the albums too?
And it is really frustrating on TTT, it's an amazing solo, but we don't get
to hear how it ends at all.

I have a few thoughts about the cover art of working man.
First of all, you may be wondering why it consists of a bunch
of naked blue guys without hair, genitalia, or eyes, all sticking their
fists up in the air. Well, the reason for that is because they were
made using a program called Fractal Design Poser, whose specific purpose
is to make naked people with no hair, eyes, or genitalia, which you can
then put in neat poses, like the "holding your fist in the air" pose.
The general idea is usually to then take this figure into some other
application, photoshop perhaps, and give it some eyes, clothes, hair,
etc. However, the cover artist didn't bother to do this, preferring to
stick with the "naked blue guy" motif. You'll also notice that the cover
artist wasn't exceptionally careful about things like perspective,
    shadows, etc.

To sum up, I found the cover art to be laughably cheesy, yet somehow
    appropriate for a Rush tribute.

    +-------------------------------------------------------+ | | | Ytsejam T-Shirts | | | +-------------------------------------------------------+

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------

** It looks like the tshirts for YtseCon III have been canceled. Jeff ** Chew has decided to make my Ytsejam shirt the official shirt of ** YtseCon III. The shirt will still debut at YtseCon III as planned. ** For those of you asking, I can't mail out shirts before the Con. Even my ** girlfriend isn't getting one before the Con. :) If you don't know if ** you're going yet, don't panic, if you're there, pick it up there, if not, ** I'll mail if after the Con as planned.

I spoke to the print shop, and production begins this week. I will have the shirts next weekend. They will premier at the Con on the 12th of October, and mail orders will go out starting on the 16th.

    ======= Details =======

The Ytsejam shirts are two sided prints. The front of the shirt features a *full color* raytraced graphic from Chris Haley in Washington. The graphic is a beautifully done scene with the Majesty logo floating behind a group of marble columns on a tile floor with a wide view of space visible behind.

The back of the shirt will be done in a solid blue color. The majority of the design is a huge Majesty logo, framed by the Dream Theater title at the top, the mailing list address on the sides and "Ytsejam" at the bottom. Below that is "Internet Mailing List" between two more Majesty logos.

** The print order has been increased to 200 shirts. I'm hoping that ** this will cover all of the order, but if I have to, I will do a second ** run.

You can check out all of the details, as well as a preview of the shirts at: http://www.phlab.missouri.edu/~c675311/ytsejam/

Please note: Due to some legal issues, the University will no longer allow me to keep this commercial advertisement on their server. To sidestep this issue, Chris Merlo was kind enough to put the page up on his account. Please go to the URL above and follow the link to the new site.

    ======= Pricing =======

The cost of the shirts is $16 each. The shirt is damn close to concert quality, so $16 is a steal (last Dream Theater concert I was at charged $23 for a shirt!). If you require a size larger than XL, please let me know ASAP so I can get those orders in. There is an additional $1 charge for each size increase (ie. XXL = $17). If you are picking the shirt up from me directly or will be at YtseCon III, the $16 price stands. If you won't be at the Con and can't get the shirt in person, you can order one through the mail for $20 to cover shipping.

I spoke with the people at the post office and I've decided to set the shipping prices outside the USA at $9, for a total of $25. I realize this is damn expensive for a tshirt, and I'm sorry. If individual prices are signifigantly less expensive, I will gladly return a check for the balance.

The rundown: Pickup or Con: $16 Mail Order: $20 Outside the USA: $25 XXL +$1 XXXL +$2

    ======== Ordering ========

The shirts are open to pre-ordering now. You can reserve one by check or money order to ensure that you will get one. I definitely recommend this. By ordering early, you can make sure you get a shirt, as well as ensure that the whole project goes of without a hitch. Checks and money orders will be held until the weekend before the Con (Oct. 4th) at which point they will be cashed to cover the rest of the payment when I pick up the shirts. Those of you at the Con will receive your shirts then. Mail orders will begin shipping the week after the Con, most likely on that Wednesday (Oct. 16th).

To order, send a check or money order for the proper amount (see pricing above) to:

Pat Griffin 573A Hudson Hall 1202 E. Rollins St. Columbia, MO 65201

Make them payable to Pat Griffin, and remember this in US dollars.

Be sure to include: Your name. Email address. Mailing address. Phone number. Quantity of shirts you want to order. The size of each. Whether or not you will be at YtseCon III.

I will keep you up to date on the status of the shirts through email.

Don't worry, you are not alone. This must be the Ytsejammer's coming out of the closet tour, but DT isn't my favorite band either. I don't like anything prog other than DT and Rush (an' I only like the Rush albums post-Signals). The reason I like DT so much is because they have a good way of writing prog. My favorite band is actually Queensryche, even though I'm not on their mailing list. One reason I like this list so much is because everyone on it isn't afraid to give their own opinion So now you've heard mine. It will be >a dark day for progressive rock if Rush calls it quits. I haven't liked >their past stuff, but the new album, I like. Can anyone confirm or >hopefully, discomfirm what I heard? > Tony >

    Hello Tony ! :)))

Well, I've listened to "Test for Echo". I really liked this new album and I'm going to buy it soon. "Test for Echo" is better than "Counterparts", although I think "Counterparts" is a nice album too.

But I disagree with everything you said about RUSH past stuff. You know, DREAM THEATER wouldn't be what they are if they don't have listened to RUSH past stuff, and learned how to play it. Most of DT songs are inspired in RUSH songs. Did you know that ???

"6:00" is similar to "Tom Sawyer" ???? "A Change of Seasons" is similar to "2112" ???? "A Mind Beside Itself" is similar to "Hemispheres" ???? "Ytseyjam" is similar to "YYZ" ????

Open your mind and listen carefully to RUSH's albums :"2112", "Tom Sawyer", "Hemispheres", "Moving Pictures", "Exit... Stage Left".

Well, albums from "Signals" to "Roll the Bones" are no good, most DREAM THEATER fans know that. But all albums from "Rush" to "Exit... Stage Left" are masterpieces !!!
