What is this "Working Man" thing I just read about? It sounds to me as
though it's a "tribute" to RUSH from other musicians. Is this a decent
assumption? And if so, how do I get ahold of a copy?

Ya, I remember that, it was called operation revolution. I know I sent in e
mail but I guess it just proves that there isn't "Anybody Listening"!
Frustrating if you ask me. I thought that it might actually do something.
I was subscribed to both the ytsejam and screaming in digital (the QR

Why don't we just wait till Halloween and have Operation: Revolution...The
Sequel. The first one had just about no effect. I myself got through on the
phone to vote for Ryche's "Anybody Listening?"...but that night it was Most
Wanted JAMS, which is rap and R+B and stuff, and as far as I know the
entirety of O:R had no effect whatsoever on anybody. Good fun anyhow, though. :)

In relation to DT ever becoming more popular, I have this to say:

I'm becoming more certain that the reason more people don't like
Dream Theater is James LaBrie. My brother and my mother (I know....lotsa
people :) have said that that specifically is what they don't like about DT.
My mom says "his voice is too high" and me brother says "it makes it sound
like one of those cheesy 80's pop metal hair bands". Now, obviously I
disagree otherwise I wouldn't be here, but I CAN understand their points of
view. James' voice does get a little machine-like sometimes. Meaning that if
you could get a synthesizer to pronounce words, that's what he would sound
like. A little too perfect, and in turn, emotionless. That's why I like his
singing on Awake MUCH better. On some songs, like 6:00 and CiaW, he gets
that scratch vocal thing going. When he does that, it sounds a lot
more....human. Same as his live singing. He adds more embellishments and
stuff. Sounds less machiney. Now, judging from the titles off of the next
album, the music will be a little more personal and emotional. I'm betting
that this will bring out James good side more, which may in turn bring in a
few more fans. Just my 2-8 cents.

    Hi Rick,
I'm not sure if you're that same Rick who signs"Cheers, Rick-Toronto", but
that doesn't really matter. I just read jam 1810 and I saw your post. I'm
sorry to hear about your wife. I know how things like that can be crushing.
My girlfriend (now my ex- Thank god) had a very severe head injury in a car
accident. She had to be operated, but it turned out she had no brain damage
at all. She had a couple of stitches, and a very long rest period, but she
turned out ok. But during that time, what I went through was so hard
morally that I even tried killing myself. I don't know the details of what
the injury to your wife is, but I can tell you that she'll be fine once the
therapy is over. It's very hard and painstaking, but I'm sure she (well,
both of you) will get through.
            Take care, and Godspeed,
            Sebsammy

    ......

First off, this is not a flame at all:

Hi Damon (and everyone). I see where you're coming from, but I just want to
see DT get more world wide exposure. Keeping Dream Theater hidden in a closet
all to ourselves is not helping the band achieve the recognition that they
    deserve (IMO).

In regard to your comment about the 45 I.Q. and under kids, well I have hopes
that maybe a few of them after being exposed to DT, may change or learn
something. I have converted a few teenagers to DT fans in recent months, and
it's a blast to have them coming back to me now and saying "wow! I can't believe
I lived without this shit man!"

More exposure cannot hurt DT, only help them. I know how we all feel
about Mtv, and the POINT of petitioning them with this is to let them
know! What *if* (and I know this is a big if!) we somehow managed to nudge
Mtv hard enough that they begin to support progressive bands again????

What's worse, getting DT on Mtv, or sitting here doing nothing about the
lack of respect for progressive bands in todays music industry?

OK I PROMISE this is my last post in this particular issue of the jam!

I have noticed that there seem to be hundreds of DT web sites...

When you email Mtv today on behalf of DT and progressive bands, be sure
to include any URL's that you can think of for DT pages. Let's show them
we're serious, and that there is a lot of support for this. If Mtv thinks
they can gain another couple thousand viewers in a week just by announcing
a DT video, they just might go for it :) Of course, non of us will watch
Mtv regularly no matter what they do, but THEY dont have to know that.

    Dear jammers,

Hey there! Here's an update for the YtseCon III! First of all, it will
take place at the La Guardia Marriot (Queens, NY), on Saturday, October
12th from 1pm to 5pm. We have spoken to Dream Theater and management, and
they say that there is a good chance that they will be there.

The cost for pre-paid tickets is $20 per person. The cost at the door
will be $25 per person. This will cover the cost of the conference room
and other miscellaneous stuff (name tags, programs, etc.). If you would
like to pay in advance, please send a check to:

    YtseCon III
    c/o Jeff Chew
    350 Broadway, Suite 703
    New York, NY 10013

When you send a check, please include a note or letter that says your
name, return address, e-mail address, and phone number. This makes things
a lot easier for us when we send the tickets back to you, plus if we ever
need to get in contact with you.

Due to the lack of reservations, we have decided to return the block of 75
rooms to the Marriot. So, we have arranged it so that you can contact the
Marriot through their 800 number. If you need a room, call the La Guardia
Marriot at 1-800-882-1043. *REMEMBER TO TELL THEM THAT YOU ARE GOING TO
THE "DREAM THEATER CONVENTION"*. If you need to find someone to split a
room with, the staff is still doing that (well, Greg is), so you can
    contact him at grc8@columbia.edu.

If you plan on flying to the YtseCon III, we have arranged something with
Rich Worldwide Travel so you can reserve airline tickets through them by
calling their 800 number. Please call 1-800-431-1130, and tell them that
you are going to the 'Dream Theater Convention'.

If you can provide a ride to the YtseCon III, or if you are in need of a
ride, please contact me by either e-mailing me or calling me and I will
    see what I can do.

Syrinx gave me the idea of writing up a list of paid tickets. If you sent
out a check to me and you're not on the list, let me know! IT could be
either lost in the mail or it didn't get to me yet. Well, here goes:

1N - One night reserved at the Marriot (these are only the ones that were
sent to me rather than directly to the Marriot)

2N - Two nights reserved at the MArriot

    R - Providing rides

    L - Providing a place to stay

    Paid:

    001 Ryan T. Rafaloff 002 Ryan T. Rafaloff 003 David Neff
    004 Sean Haider 005 Sean Haider 006 Brian Anderson + 1N
007 Brian Anderson 008 Brian Anderson 009 Pat Gravino
    010 Mike Ostrich + 1N 011 Mike Ostrich 012 Dave Pack
    013 Brian Levy 014 Jason Breitweg 015 Mike Bahr + 1N
016 Josh Sager 017 Josh Sager 018 Josh Sager
019 Josh Sager 020 Jeff Chew 021 Greg Chew
022 Michael Pomerleau 023 Michael Pomerleau 024 Matthew Erwich

Okay, that's it so far. It's not looking very good so far, and I really
need the money to put the deposit on the conference room, so I'd prefer if
you guys sent me the money ahead of time rather than paying more at the
door. That's it for now. If there are any mistakes, e-mail me! I'll
    talk to you soon!

Guys and gals: Don't buy Cairo. Please.

I mean, I don't own it or anything. I haven't even heard it. But every month or so someone on the jam says "Due to some recommendations on the Jam, I got the CD form the Magna Carta band called Cairo. I didn't like it because it had too much keyboards/synth stuff..."

Am I right or what? Apparently Cairo sucks big wanker unless you are HEAVILY into keys stuff. I've been on this list for at least a year now (has it been two?) and I seriously can't recall someone actually REALLY LIKING Cairo. Maybe people would go as far as to say that they don't suck, but that's about it. =)

I'm just saying this to save people money... Just because the We The Jam (Hey - I kinda like that...) promote Magna Carta and their bands, doesn't mean that every MC band is awesome.

So one more time: If you're looking to pick up Cairo, BE PREPARED FOR TONS OF KEYS!!!!!! People: Imprint the following association in your heads:

    Cairo = Keys

    Cairo = Keys

    Cairo = Keys

Got it??? Now I don't want to hear a WORD about someone whining that Cairo has too much keys for you!!!

    WE ALREADY KNOW!!!!!!!!

CAIRO HAS TOO MUCH KEYS FOR EVERYBODY!!!!!!!!

    =)

And with that, I'm off like a prom dress...

The following appeared in Ytsejam #1810:

    >I have been lurking for almost a Year since last time I posted something >on the JAM but I bought a CD some days ago that I'd like to recomend all >You out there to check out: > > DALBELLO - Whore

Now isn't this the woman that originally perfomed "Gonna Get Close To You," the song later covered by Queensryche on "Rage for Order"? I've always affectionately called it "the stalker song." :)
